I'm interested in upgrading my DTXpress II system. I've already put
two Pintech "Dingbats" (bar pads) on channels 9/10 and have them
mounted to my cymbal shafts. I'm considering putting either the
ZB2R or something like two PS series (probably 14" or larger) to
replace my single-zone, Yamaha cymbal.

I've read the review of the "Zenbal" cymbals in the Files section of
this site. I've found no real bad comments about them, and I've
also spoken to Rick at Pintech.

Rick suggested flipping the attenuation switch on the back of the
drum module to High and possibly some gain setting adjustment. I'd
probably start with those listed in our File section (review doc).
Rick said, "It's just a feel thing between either the PC or ZB
cymbals." Unfortunately, there's nobody that has them in my area
(Buffalo, NY) to try them out for myself.

Can someone make a recommendation as to either the ZB or PC series
OR another brand that plays good and has good dynamic range?

I play an average of an hour a day (or every other at times), and
I'm starting to want MORE out of my set.

Bill

"Module settings: I've gotten the best results by setting the pad
type to misc 2 for each of these products. The optimal Gain and
Minimum Velocity (for me, at least) has been 90/20. For the hi-hat,
I've achieved the best results with these settings at 85/25." is
what is written in the review in our file section.

Talking to the rep, Rick, at Pintech, he suggested use of channels 6
and 9 or 10 for the ZB-2R (ride version with second channel in the
bell instead of the edge). He also said that we may have to flip
the attenuation switch in the back of the module to "H" instead of
the default "L". If you don't hear good sound, he said to also turn
the gain down instead of up (like you'd think). He said, sometimes
clipping turns into no sound (muted channel).

I'm investigating other sources of system expansion. One is a
homebuilt drum brain with MIDI out ($???), the other is a Roland TMC-
6 ($210). I'm unsure at the moment what to do with the MIDI. Can
it only play notes within the DTXpress brain, I don't know. I don't
see where you can assign a MIDI input to a voice. I download/upload
via MIDI right now, but nothing more. It'll take some
experimentation.

Later, thanks, and let me know how your cymbals work out!
