DTXpress pad longevity

Hello all. I have owned a DTXpress for two months now and I am thoroughly impressed with the results. They sound fantastic live and are a doddle to record. The only concern I have is as to the durability and lifespan of the pads. Yesterday I noticed that quite a severe indentation has become apparent on the kick pad rubber and there are now grains of rubber all over the tower (I use a felt Pearl beater as suggested by my retailer). Is anybody else experiencing this?

Also, in light, it is clear that the pads are becoming quite marked. How long should they last before replacement? I don't play particularly hard and I use wooden tipped sticks as opposed to nylon. Any tips on how to increase the lifespan of the pads would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Philip,

This has been mentioned a few times before on the list but rotating the pads is a good way to keep them from wearing out so quickly. Obviously this doesn't help your kick pad problem... I have to say that I've had my kit for over 1.5 years and also use wooden tipped sticks and I'm not noticing any deterioration of the pad surfaces or kick pad. This may sound weird, but being rubber, weather conditions like dryness or humidity, air conditioning, smoke, etc. could have negative effects on the pad surfaces. Just a thought.

Here's a tip. Although the pads look like they're
being marked by your sticks - it's actually just wood
dust, grease and other unmentionable crap. Just get a
clean damp cloth (don't use detergent or soap - just a
damp cloth with water) and rub the pads. Then allow
them to dry naturally and they'll look as good as new.
