DTXpress III SS / Cakewalk Home Studio

DTXpress III SS / Cakewalk Home Studio

2005-01-22 by eduardonoso

Hello I am new to the MIDI scene and I am very lost on how to use my
eDrums with Homestudio. I can get as far as recording a track but
obviously the sounds coming out of my soundcard don't match the kit. I
was wondering is there a way to download the sounds from the kit to
the computer for play back? Also, when I record do I assign each pad
to a seperate channel or do I play it as if it were a "keyboard"? I am
so confused and whenever I try selecting a different patch or bank
there is no change in sound playback.

Thank you,
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo,

I am sure there are members here who are well versed in recording, but
you might also want to consider joining and asking your question at
another wonderful Yahoo group that concerns itself with exactly that
and is (almost ;-)) as helpful and friendly as this one is. Lots of
good folks and great info at:

Hi, I'm new to midi myself here, so this may be the case of the
blind leading the blind, but for starters, until someone who knows
more than I do...

I 'think' you may want to have a look at what midi channel you are
sending and receiving in your DTXpress and your recording program of
choice - CakeWalk - I use Cubase VST 32/5.1 myself here. There is
more than one way to skin a cat, but so far I've only used 'General
Midi' and I use the 'standard' midi Channel 10 to send and receive
midi from my DTXpress to my Cubase DAW.
Oh, and I've used the regular midi connections, but I decided to go
with the 'To Host' cable for my DTXpress midi needs, because it's
only one cable for midi In/Out and this free's up my only midi
In/Out on my Aardvark Q10 card for something else, like my
keyboard/synth.

You may want to read up on your DTXpress & CakeWalk manuals about
transmitting midi data. Read about midi mapping as well.
In Cubase, in my Drum Editor window, my DTXpress Kick and Snare hits
do not fall in the Cubase midi drum editor lables of "kick"
and "snare" ..instead, the recorded midi from my drums land at the
very bottom of the list under some obsure lable. So what I do is 're-
lable' it Kick and Snare, then I drag the newly labled kick/snare
with my mouse to the top of my drum editor list.

This may not be the point as you said your midi hits/sounds do not
match up which is your problem at hand...But just as a thought,
rather than try to dump the DTXpress drum samples into your
computer...and I'm working doing this myself right now...Is to
record midi into my DAW with my DTXpress and use a software drum
program and software drum samples of very high quality, to play back
rather than the DTXpress sounds which are less than great. Just food
for thought, more so for your future of midi and I know all this is
very confusing at first.
But YOU need to address your current problem at hand, then you can
run with it.
Anyway try those things above. Hope this helps.

Steve

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
