New to group

2005-02-15 by jamieukonline

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this group.
I been playing for about 5 years, made the switch to a DTPRESS 2 a
couple of years back and I love it.
I've added extra cymbals and toms to my kit too.

My banmd havn't played live for ages so I still havn't got to use it
live, really looking forward to it though!

I got a few DTX components I'm selling if anyones interested. I
actually bought more than I had inputs for (oops!!!).
I thought I should let you guys know (in case any of you want to add
pads or replace them) as it took me so long to get hold of mine!!!

Hi. I found this group by following a web search on floor
soundproofing - found a nifty solution using tennis balls, that's to
be my next project.

Been a drummer for quite a few years, mostly on classic rock and metal
cover bands. Bought the DTXpress III early this year and am extremely
happy with it. Now I just need to soundproof the bass drum pad :-)

Right. The tennis ball platform had a surge of popularity a few years
ago. I've heard that it even works. Let us know whether it solves your
problem. Many drummers are dismayed to discover that their new e-kits
are far from silent, especially through the floor. Rugs and all
manner of extra isolation are highly recommended. Mesh pads are often
the next upgrade because they make less noise than gum rubber; they
also tend to be bigger, easier on the joints, and arguably more like
acoustic drums(depending on the brand).

Hello all, I am new to your group here, I play on a Yamaha DTXpress IV v2 and have been a drummer for about 20+ years.

I am glad that I have found some resources here online as the E-kits are a tad more complicated than acoustics :)

See you around - Sam

Emanuele,

All dual zone inputs are chokable on the DTXpress III (something it doesn't seem to mention in the manual). You need to make sure you buy a dual zone cymbal (PCY65S for example). You cannot use inputs 9/10 for dual zone. However, if you have a single zone cymbal you could move that to 9/10 to free up a dual zone input.

I'm sorry maybe i don't explain myself...my english is quite bad...
I have a PCY65S but i would like to build another chokable cymbal...I've read a lot of forum, but i couldn't understand how to make piezo/piezo to piezo/switch adapter circuit...I'm sorry but I haven't electronic knowledge...It's possible for me building a chokable double zone cymbal with pvc plastic cymbal?
thank you
Emanuele

Ok, I understand now. I guess you have seen most of these?

http://www.vdrums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48

http://www.dtxpander.co.uk/

A chokable cymbal would need a rim switch, but that is difficult to make so most DIY e-cymbals use two piezos. I don't know anything about making e-cymbals, but there is loads of information on those first three links about it.

To make the DTXpress choke with a dual piezo cymbal you need to convert the second piezo signal to a rim switch signal. That is what the DTXpander circuit does (my design). You could use a single piezo cymbal and any momentary switch to choke it, just wired between the connector ring and sleeve. A dual piezo cymbal would obviously give you two sounds as well as the ability to choke.
