Garrey,

Look in the photo gallery here and you will see examples of both the II
and the original one. The kick pedal is different and the cymbal / pads
are slightly different.

Subject: Spam:[DTXpress] dtxpress 1 (ie original)

Hi, I posted a message yesterday about a used dxtpress 2 vs a new 3.
Well, I bought the used model last night and was told its a 2. But, I
think its an original. I do not see anything on the unit that says 2. I
think i was duped. My guess is that a used original model for $650 is a
waste of money, and I will probably return it to guitar center. Can
anyone confirm or refute my guess. Also, sorry for wasting email
time..i searched the message board and cant seem to efficiently find my
answer. Also, there is no good website out there besides this group.
So, thanks. This group is extremely helpful.
Garrey

Garrey,

The DTXPI module has an orange faceplate and a black top with DTXpress
in white letters. The II module has a red faceplate with DTXpress II
written prominently across the top.

If what you got was the DTXpress I, you should be compensated for the
deception or the error. But it is by no means a substandard kit. The
DTXPI featured 7 stereo inputs and the same dual-mono extra input 9/10
as on the II. As OGD mentioned, the kick pedal is different, and
inferior. The hi hat is comparable. The II featured a host of
improvements, ranging from the user-friendliness of the rack to the
better-textured and slightly more responsive cymbal pads and the three-
sound snare, but the two kits aren't worlds apart by any respect.
Unless you can spend more money on a genuine II, or even III, you as a
novice would not be badly served with a first-generation DTXpress,
assuming again that nothing is wrong with it. If the store will take
off $150 or so for its mistake, it might be worthwhile. It's up to
you, though.
