Bass intermittently not triggering

Bass intermittently not triggering

2005-04-30 by john@johnallsopp.co.uk

Hi everyone

I don't think I've changed anything, but all of a sudden my bass drum
pad is sometimes not triggering. I can sit and do a row of bass beats
all pretty much the same and on their own and maybe 20% aren't
triggering.

I've never played with the trigger sensitivities. It's a III.

What do ppl suggest my fault finding checklist should be?

Cheers
J

J,

First try another cable. If that doesn't help, you may have run into
the dreaded breakdown of the foam behind rubber. If you're still under
warranty, get a new kick, and this time put some reinforcement between
the beater and the pad. If not, open up the pad and check the foam,
the wires, and the solder.

Hi there,

I think Ed pretty much covered all the bases, but in my 'own' case
it was a bad solder connection inside the kick trigger tower. I at
first though I had a bad sensor and changed it only to find that the
problem still existed. It was very hard to tell by looking at it,
even with a magnifying glass! At any rate, by resoldering the
connection, problem was solved!
Oh and I myself though changing the trigger was a bear to stuff the
new foam back in. I just left the new trigger and saved the old one
btw.
