Hello!

Hello!

2005-09-02 by themac5150

Hello,

My name is Jeff and I recently bought a DTXPRESS3 standard kit. I
am like most. I played acoustic long ago, and haven't been able to
play because of neighbors etc. I bought it with a Yorkville 50w
powered wedge monitor because I didn't know any better. I've been
looking into buying something that can handle a small live venue and
garage type practicing. I'm open to any suggestions. I've searched
for the info but came up with very little. I read quite a bit on
the Behringer KX1200, and heard too many horror stories, of that
thing frying at the worst possible time. I would rather put the
$200 toward something a little more reliable. But I've already
dumped $279 into an underpowered little thing, that hopefully I can
use as a monitor live. I've contemplated buying the Yorkville 200w
amp but have found no reviews on it, and its not cheap. I was taken
back after I bought the kit; not much information out there on what
to look for in an e-drum amp. I've read some poor reviews of Roland
amps and they are very expensive. I'm really looking for something
that can be cranked up when it needs to be, sounds good, and
RELIABLE. Any of the experiences or input that anyone has would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

Look into a Peavey keyboard amp. The one I have for, home use only, is the KB2. Really works well. Whatever brand/model you chose, it should be a keyboard amp.

Hi Jeff,

This is probably useless information but after buying one for myself,
the band liked it and each bought one .. the guitarist and bass player
each have one so we have three in total. Although the others are
relatively new, I'm comforted by the idea that if one fries we at
least have the other two.

Mine's lasted nine months or so OK but in truth it's only been used
for practising, and never yet over 5/10 volume.

Also, it's worth hearing the DTXpress in stereo. We put the drums and
guitar through a pair of Behringers to form a stereo backline and it
sounded excellent.

Well I went ahead and got the KX1200. I've used it twice so far and
was impressed with the sound that it produces but I really don't
have and experience with anything else other than acoustics and the
little 50w Yorkville that I shouldn't have bought in the first
place. I intend to get another KX1200 in the future. The KX1200
feels nice and solid and having 2 would definitely be better. I got
mine through AMS because they add another year to the warranty so I
have a little peace of mind. I noticed on the Behringer website
that the KX1200s are being replaced with a new 300w effects amp that
is listed reasonably well when you google it. One note though, I
couldn't run both the left and right through the amp on separate
channels. It made the sound very distant like it was fried. As I
said before, I'm not familiar with amps, but the little Yorkville
doesn't have a problem doing that on channel 2. I had read in some
of the KX1200 reviews that it arrived sounding like that, a quick
disconnect of the right imput cleared it up. I wonder if someone
else has tried this to the same effect? I push the right side
through the Yorkville while practicing for a stereo sound. It works
pretty good for just messing around. I think that if the KX1200
holds up, it was real bargain.
