any X-fade gurus out there?

any X-fade gurus out there?

I 've been messing about with the X-fade settings, trying to get
the transition between the layers smooth. Can anyone explain to
me what the different X patterns actually mean in the real world. It
seems like the first few don't really do much but put you on layer
2, layer 1 cuts so quick you barely notice it. I dont hear much
difference til I get to setting 4, which seems 50/50. Also it seems
like the overall volume for that pad got dropped a lot. Ideally what
i'm looking for is layer 1 to act as it normally does, and then layer
2 to come in on top of that as the velocity increases, rather than
replacing sound 1. I was thinking about trying a set-up with 2 of
the same snare sounds with different filter settings but am
worried about phase cancellation. Any ideas?

I don't think you can obtain exactly what you want because the X-fade
function always cuts the layer 1 when the velocity increases. But you should
be attentive to your trigger settings which are very important for this
function. I also noticed that on cymbal pads the X-fade function doesn't
have the same response, it maybe comes from the internal pad structure and
the sensor distribution.
