RE: Spam:Re: [DTXpress] Hey everyone, new member/drummer here
2005-09-21 by Damon, Rob
Just to let you and other newer members know. The first post or two to
the DTXpress group must be approved by one of the moderators before it
is posted.
I receive emails (at work) showing when someone joins/quits/posts or
adds files to the files area. To approve a post, I just send an approval
reply to Yahoo, which is simple and easy. This allows us to stop spam
and porn from being posted to the group. Spam and porn posts are always
"disapproved". With spam posts, we send a warning to the poster about
the groups posting policy and depending on the response may locked down
their posting ability. To porn posters, we disapprove the post and ban
the member permanently. This approval/disapproval process can all be
handle through our email accounts, which is less monitored.
Once a new member has made a legitimate post to the group, one of the
four current moderators of the group, tries to open up their posting
ability as quickly as possible. Since all of us work, it may take a day
or two to open up your posting ability, without having one of the
moderators having to pre-approve your posts. This is why when new
members posts it may take as few as a minute or two to show up or as
much as a day.
For a moderator to open up posting for a new member, we must log on to
the Yahoogroup site and go into the admin area, locate the member and
change their posting status and save the settings. This requires us to
"surf" the web and go to a "non-office related" website during working
hours to accomplish this. Hence the delay. Even though Ed is usually
really quick at handling these tasks.
Occasionally, when I send an approved post back to Yahoo for posting,
our work email scanning service will pick up what it sees as a potential
hazard in the post and will reject it, and thus I cannot easily approve
it, as the email scanner will stop the post from going through. This may
have been what happen to your earlier post.
