Keith,

I am not sure what is magical about input no. 1, but the manual does
specifically identify that input as the only one that the HH can be
plugged into when you are using it as a kick pedal. All of my gear is
packed up because of moving to a new house, so I can't do any testing,
maybe somebody else can.

The manual also implies that you must still use a stereo cable when you
plug the HH into input no. 1, although that may only be for when you use
it in input 8 as a standard Hihat pedal.

You could still use input 8 to plug the HH into and assign the foot
splash sound to it, but I don't think it would be reliable, even if you
set the footsplash trigger to a low number.

I also wonder if it would be possible to move the KP up to input 9/10
and plug the HH into the aux-in of the KP and set the swap function for
the inputs 1->9/10 in the setup. Again, I would try it but can't get to
my gear.

OGD,

Now I'm confused! Isn't input 1 the kick, input 8 the hi-hat and the
un-numbered input below 7&8 on the back the HH pedal?

Same effect - you cannot use it to replace a piezo pad. I did mess
about with a couple of connectors to make a patch lead to try to cheat
and use the internal pull-up on the ring to pull up the tip. It sort
of works - but backwards.

A bit of circuitry (transistor, a couple of resistors, a capacitor and
a power supply) could be used to fix it, but you need to be handy at
building electronics.

Keith.

Re: Only getting sound when letting go of pedal - solution

2006-09-12 by Keith

OGD,

You are absolutely right. I looked at page 12 of the reference manual
but didn't spot the note about putting the HH pedal into the kick
input. I have tried it on my kit and it works! There is clearly some
different electronics on that input to allow its use in this way.

So, the solution, ddindublin, is to plug your extra HH pedal into the
kick pad input, input 1. You then need to put the KP65 pad into a
different input (probably 9/10 because the others will probably be in
use, but you will need a mono to stereo splitter for that). Then go
to trigger edit (SHIFT+TRIGGER) and select pad 1. The last option for
"TRIG IN" is HH Controller - it cannot be set to this on the other inputs.

I have tried this on my DTXpress III and it works.

Keith.

Thanks. That's good to know.

I have just repeated with a mono and it doesn't work - so it needs a
stereo. I suspect this is because the resistance at the tip of the HH
controller is 150k and on the ring it is 1k, so it wil use the ring
for switching.

I just tried the kick in 9/10 and did a 1<>9 swap and it worked ok.

One thing worth noting is that if you only want to plug one pad into
9/10 you don't need a slitter - just use a mono cable and it will be
fine - I have been doing that for a while on my kit.

Keith.
