Can I use an Alesis hi hat pedal trigger with a dtxpress 2? If not,
what is the most inexpensive hi hat foot trigger that will work?

As far as I know, the Alesis hi-hat pedal is a simple switch (for the
DM5 module) and so won't work with the DTXpress. The Roland ones are
also different to the Yamaha, so your best bet is the Yamaha HH65
pedal. You may be able to find a second hand one somewhere. The
earlier Yamaha pedal should also work ok.
