Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

I have a dumb question.  Does the DTXpress hihat have just two 
positions (wide open and closed) or does it support a third position 
like most other midi drum kits (slightly open)?  It seems like i can 
only get two sounds out of my hihat, unless I slam the pedal with my 
hand, in which case I get a loud, halfway open sound.  What am I 
doing wrong, and how might I tweak my setup?  I have the standard 
DTXpress hihat pedal.
