Kick Pad Trouble

Kick Pad Trouble

2007-11-05 by Dennis

Hi...

Long time lurker here to the group. I have a DTXpress II kit and the
kick pad is giving me some trouble. I'm getting rapid fire triggers
from a single hit or sometimes I'm getting no trigger response at all.

I'm sure it's the trigger in the pad unit. I've been beating the thing
without mercy with a Pearl Power-Shifter double bass pedal for 2-1/2
years now. The pad itself is worn thin and sunken in.

Is this something I can replace myself or do I have to buy a whole new
kick pad tower assembly??

Can anybody recommend an online source for this stuff. I want to buy a
couple of cymbal pads also.

Thanx,
Dennis.....

Lurker too. Thomann <http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html>
http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html was recommended to me, so that's
where I buy my stuff.

As for repairs: others will advise I'm sure.

Dennis,

The most likely problem is the foam has had it. There is no harm in
taking it apart and having a look if its already broken. Check for
broken wires and if it seems ok, find some foam to put in there. From
memory, you just peel the rubber bit off to get inside. The rubber
may be failing as well, though.

If you want to buy another (they aren't expensive) it depends where
you are. In Europe, Thomann provide a good service and good prices.
In the USA, Drumbalaya are probably the best bet.

Keith.

Hi Dennis
One thing I would suggest to anyone having problems with the DTxpress
is to do a factory reset before you do anything else ... just to
ensure it isn't a bad or a corrupted setting...

I hate buying replacement parts just to find out that a reset would
have fixed it! lol

Just a heads up, Drumbalaya is pretty much out of business. I think
they still have a few liquidation items left. I believe
Musiciansfriend.com, music123.com, and guitarcenter.com are all the the
same place now, and on bizrate, they have 83% negative reviews over the
past 3 months. Just a heads up in case you try to order from them.

Wow, thanks for letting us know. Being in the UK, I don't know that
much about Drumbalaya, although they seemed to be popular for edrums.

True. I had a problem with my kick pad as well, I thought it is defected. but after resetting it to factory setting, it works perfectly!

Usually a sign that you have accidentally changed a parameter which
has screwed it up.

My KP65 started to wear out within 3 months of average pounding with a
double pedal. I inspected the thing and at first sight it looked like
parts are not readily user-replaceable so before moving forward on
that I contacted Yamaha. Bottom line: "replace the entire thing if it
wears out badly". I was a bit disappointed with the answer as I
expected a more encouraging response from the company.

I resorted to install a kick drum impact patch on the pad itself right
where the beaters hit. This was almost 8 months ago and as far as I
can tell the KP65 pad has not worn further - at least visually; no
alterations to the pad's response noticed neither. I figure I will
have to replace the entire KP65 assembly eventually as it does takes a
beating. When I do that, I will install another impact patch before I
play the thing.
