TP65S or TP100

TP65S or TP100

2007-12-02 by deneteus

Does anybody know if its better to go with three TP65S pads instead of
three TP100 to replace the single zone TP65 pads that come with the
DTXPress IV Special.

The only place I have found the TP100s for cheap are on Ebay used. Are
they really worth the hastle? I found three TP65S pads for $180

Also does anybody know where I can get the TP100 the cheapest.

If you have the DTXpress IV with TP100s, I am not sure why you would
want to use the TP65S instead. I have a TP100 on my DTXpress III and
wouldn't go back to the TP65. I don't mind the TP65 for the toms,
although I've never played a DTXpress IV with TP100s for the toms, so
I have no comparison there.

You will lose the ability to use the red knob on the TP65 (it doesn't
have one). The TP65 also doesn't have a convenient volume know
(although it has a screwdriver adjustment).

Why do you want to replace them?

Keith.

I have 1 TP100 for the tom and I only have 3 TP65S pads on my DTXIV
Special Kit and I noticed the 3 Tom ports have stereo inputs according
to the manual. What I was wanting to know was can I replace the TP65S
pads with the three zone TP100? Then later I thought - Is it better to
just add more single zone TP65S pads to get more drums or find dual
zone pads to replace them all?

Is it worth adding 3 extra single zone pads to get more triggers on
the DTXPress IV? Or am I just wasting money?

I know the DTXTREME III is finally out but I can't afford $4k.

As I understand it, the tom inputs on the DTXpress IV are NOT stereo,
but twin mono inputs. That is why putting a TP65S into it will only
give you one sound, not two. The same will apply to the TP100/120 -
you will still only get one sound. If you want to use inputs
9/10/11/12 you need Y splitters and two mono pads for each input. You
could use stereo pads on the inputs, but you will only get one sound
from each pad. So, you could keep your 3 TP65S pads and buy three or
four more (TP65 non-S would do) or buy TP100 pads, whichever you
prefer. It all comes down to how many toms you want (or other pads as
you could always use cymbals instead of toms).

Keith.
