dtxplorer midi out question

dtxplorer midi out question

2008-09-26 by kurtmax

Hi gang,
I'm new here, forgive me if this question is old hat.
I just tried to hook up my DTXPOLRER via midi-out to my PC and I
don't seem to get the snare or bass drum.
Yes, I got the infamous midisport Uno midi/USB adaptor. I'm using
nuendo with the VST sound plug in "Plug Sound Pro by Ultimate Sound
Bank". The Plug Sound Pro VST has a few dozen drum sets but they all
seem to not play the bass drum or snare (the hi hat, cymbals and toms
are coming out).
Please help me, oh wise ones!
Thank you
Kurt M

hello,
the yamaha midi note numbers are different then standart midi ( Roland).
Try to change them in your Dtxplorer and look what happens.

bye

Claude

That's right, Yamaha does not use the standard midi note number for snare that everybody else does. Not sure about the bass drum, but I seem to remember there were two note numbers that weren't standard. I think it's detailed somewhere in a yamaha manual.

The snare notes do tend to vary depending on which preset you have loaded, but another thing you could check is that the snare and kick are turned up..with my DTXpress there is a "live" mode in which you can adjust the volumes of snare and kick.

Thanks,
There is no reference in the DTXplorer manual for altering the midi
output configuration.
I have been stressing over this...with no solution. Any more
feedback would be greatly appreciated. Dang. Could it be my recording
software or VST software? I can't seem to alter their midi input
configuration.
Anyone know how to contact the official tech support?
TIA

Todd,

I am sure this problem has arisen several times before. Try searching
the messages (try a search for "midi") - I think you may find your answer.

Keith.

Thanks for the several replies.
Tonight I decided to simply run from the Dtxplorer 1/4" line outs
and forget about using the Midi capabilities.
I talked to a Yamaha tech support guy who suggested suing a Yamaha
midi to USB cable instead of the Uno sport cable. I ordered on online
(non available at the local gear chain stores). We'll see.
In the meantime, I am astounded at how nice the line outs sound when
recorded! Man, much better then through my keyboard amp or even
headphones.
I am excited to finally begin some fun recording now! WooHooo!
