my dtx expressIV

my dtx expressIV

2009-09-28 by johnsheppard80

hi guys i have owned a dtx express IV for about a year now and sadly enough am only using it for bare bones practise n bashing the hell out of it really, i have dreams of being able to play it properly but lack time and i suppose willpower to get my head into it properly,i have a very short attention span!,
i assume that i can hook the dtx unit up to my computer via the midi?
and can then upload new samples/sounds onto it, is that a correct assumption, i shall need to read a lot more into this group, its great to see so many people all with this kit, and look forward to becoming more accustomed to my kit with all your help thanks. john

John,

Nope. You cannot load new sounds into the module. The midi can be used to load songs into the module or to take trigger information to a computer or other instrument, or to backup your settings.

Keith.

I don't think you can load songs into the module? The Dtxpress IV only
has midi out.

You are right - sorry, my mistake. I forgot they dropped the MIDI IN when they brought out the DTXpress IV (I have the DTXpress III).

You can connect dtx4 to the computer via midi, and then use it to triggers VSTi's just like a midi keyoard would. Thus you can play using the more proffessional samples of various Drum VSTi's (Addictive Drums, BFD2, Superiour Drummer, etc...) You will need a host program like cubase, nuendo, frutiy loops etc...

This will also give you the advantage of being able to record your playing as midi data, allowing you to analyze or manipulate each and every hit you make, and also you will be able to print out a score sheet of your playing.

Of course you're not limited to only drum samples. You can even play the piano on your dtx4 - though you would have a limited number of notes.

I think the real possibilities of use of e-drums can only be understood by connecting them to a computer via midi, and exploring ;)

Cheers!
