DEXTD 2 way mode

DEXTD 2 way mode

2010-02-15 by Chris

I been playing with DEXTD and it is pretty darn good for editing kits. I can't get it to acknowledge 2 way mode, though. It seems like it partially works as I can edit real time and hear the changes... just can't seem to get it to recognize the module and I don't get all the menu items that come with 2 way mode. When I test play pad songs the midi-out indicator lights. Looking for ideas.

I'm using a midisport UNO and DTX III brain.

DEXTD 2 way mode

Chris,

I'm glad you like DEXTD but I'm afraid I haven't looked at that programme for a number of years. It was designed to work with the DTXpress II as that is the only kit I have ever had. There are a few small differences in the sysex dump structures between the various models of the DTXpress and the programme is only set up to read the DTXpress II structure. For that reason, when it starts it asks the module to identify itself and, if it isn't a II then the programme disables two-way mode.

I suspect it wouldn't be an enormous job to modify it to handle other models but there would be a few hurdles:

- I don't have any other modules to test it on?
- it was written under XP so I don't even know if it would compile for Vista or Win 7.
- can I find the original source code?
- can I find the time?
- can I remember how to code in C++?
- can I find the old sysex documentation for the DTXpress III

Cheers,
Peter

Peter,

Thanks for the reply! Even in it's current form it is very useful to me. If you do decide you want/need a challenge I'd be glad to support in any way possible. Might be the push I need to learn to program in C+ (I'm a software functional manager now and have wanted to learn the "other" side) I absolutely understand if it's not a priority...

Regards,
Chris
