Yamaha factory service

2015-12-23 by jdblackhawk@...

Sigh.....anybody have any experience with getting DTX stuff repaired from Yamaha factory service? Good, bad, indifferent. Looks like the old DTXtreme I've posted about here has to go that route, but I don't want to send it unless I get some user group opinions here first. I've had a few bad experiences with musical instrument technical repair services, not Yamaha but supposedly "professional" repair technicians who could not get the job done with 2 keyboards I ended up repairing myself. Thanks and happy holidays.

Hello from Milford, pa just north and east of northern nj about 20 miles from Port Jervis NY. I am fairly tech savvy for an amateur but these dtxtremes are extremely troublesome to repair apparently! Now I have 2 I can't unravel and I'm usually pretty handy with soldering, multimeter's just shy of eprom burners and oscilloscopes. I've rebuilt 2 RM1X machines and done a few keyboard repairs. If you know of any trustworthy competent techs around I will ship or bring in anywhere within my driving territory.

You can ship us your repair from anywhere in the world. Most estimates are free!

so
go to their site scroll down and you can send them an email?

OK, thanks. Was shipping to Yamaha California anyway, that's not an
issue. I will check you out. Happy holidays.

Re: Yamaha factory service

2016-01-29 by jdblackhawk@...

Looks like I'm dead in the water. Just got word from Advanced Musical-I'd shipped to them for repair. They claim it can't be done, the problem is in the basic operating ROMs which Yamaha doesn't have anymore, neither do they have a complete mainboard these chips reside on. Hard to believe this is non-repairable just for this reason, it looks almost perfect otherwise. What a waste. I'd even be willing to ship it to Yamaha Japan if I thought they could repair it, I bet they could but I have no ides how to communicate with them and I don't speak or write Japanese. If anybody else here has any ideas, I am paying attention. I hate to see this module be completely useless. MY old DTX 2.0 has lasted for so many years I can't even remember, and never even a hiccup. God only knows what the original owner did to shmeck this one. I can't imagine what it would take to pooch this, must have taken quite a foobar.

Managed to locate another tech recommended by Yamaha-I have 2 non-working and one working DTXtreme iis, very happy with how the DTXtreme sounds now that I finally have one that works. I also now disconnected my older DTX 2.0 module I had been using for quite awhile. I am debating selling it with a few extra TP 65 pads I have. But will be hard to part with. If I can get the other 2 repaired, I will post the DTX 2.0 for sale on eBay (maybe!) Why Yamaha discontinued the DTXtreme modules is beyond me, Like their QY modules, these still are very powerful music-making tools and after studying all the other modules, these still seem to be a better bet to me. The nice thing about all the Yamahas is that they have kept for the most part, the same concepts for settings, programming etc. as on my original DTX 2.0, very helpful.

Pretty frustrating-was told by Yamaha authorized service tech-sorry we don't support these anymore or have replacements parts. Better buy a new one. What a bunch of crap, in plain English. I will keep searching. I hve 4 perfectly sound Yamaha pieces needing repair, and nobody in all the US can repair these? and what happens to these "unrepairable" units-they become very toxic and expensive landfill? That just doesn't seem right to me. Time to get in touch with the Japanese people who made them. I mentioned in another post getting in touch with Yamaha Japan. I will do that whether I can translate or not, there has to be a way these things can be brought back to life. I have tried 3 different US repair facilities, all authorized Yamaha repair shops, none of them could do a thing. Good thing houses, cars and just about every other business does not operate like this. I can get a 25-year old garage door opener service, but I can't get a lousy drum module repaired? And I was willing to pay whatever the going factory rates were, still couldn't get anyone knowledgeable to even try. At least Advanced Musical Electronics tried, but they are tied to Yamaha for parts, and Yamaha won't supply the parts-so the circle continues.

well so since you are obviously into this for the long haul & money no object
you should be checking the ebay austrailia, uk, germany france belgium/holland, italy etc etc and any of ther online sales sites as well for spares/repairs and build up your own stock --
maybe even have to buy some working ones to cannibalize?
ie maybe 1 working one could get 2 + up --
that is unless they are suffering the same fault

speaking from experience as
i had same problem with my rm-50's --
in 2009 the lcd cracked in cargo hold flying from london to barcelona for a show --
as there are no longer parts in ANY yamaha service wharehouse --
 i now own 4
oh and as i use the dtxpress [version one] as my main trigger/vox module
so i also own 4 of them -- 2 based in usa -- 2 based in france

so cogitate on it
and good luck in any event

Bummer I hate that. Is it the main control module that you are trying to get fixed. I've started having problems with my kick drum pad and was wondering how to get it fix. Sounds like I'm stuck getting a new unit.
