personal H.phone amp

personal H.phone amp

I found a personal headphone amp at Musician's Friend made by Rolls
for $40.00. I'm thinking of going this way to fix the volume problem
I see everyone seems to agree is a problem with the dtxpress! I put
a pic. of it in the photos. the model is PM50S. seems to me like a
cheap fix. If anyone knows or is using something better please post.

Jam on!!!

Hi there Lockhart69t,

That may work - I ended up getting a nice mixer from
eBay for about the same money, which worked better for
me, as I have two modules. Of course, the mixer also
has a headphone out jack, so I'm all set.

I think that no matter how you amplify the signal, you
(most likely) need to take the feed from the main
outputs, not from the headphone jack on the DTXpress.
If you used the headphone output, I think your
amplifier would just raise the volume of the s----y
sound.

Skip to the end for the big secret.
I, too use a mixer AND a Rolls headphone amp. For what I do they are
both indispensible! I use the mixer to mix dtxp, CD, and a sequencer
that goes to the main PA. On other channels I receive signals from a
click track (not DTXP) and monitor sends from PA. On these channels,
the fader is all the way down. The first aux send is Pre fader, so it
sends a signal even when none is sent out the main. These signals go
to my personal headphone amp. My vocal mic also goes directly to the
rolls, before continuing to the main PA.I can control my own
mic-to-monitor volume. Intimate control over everything! This is a
great, simple set-up.

But when I practice at home, I just use the DTXP. If you use a good
pair of headphones the volume is fine. I have four pairs, but only one
gives me enough volume, and they are great!

NOW HERE IS THE BIG SECRET. Look in the Utility section. Go to the 4th
sub menu: TG Group. Go to Volume. this sets the tone generator volume
for the whole system. It is set at 110 as the factory default. You can
go up to 127. Do it.This should make a big difference, but GET A GOOD
PAIR OF HEADPHONES.

After seeing several other posts, I realized that I had not
properly stated my concerns with the sound of the DTXpress when
using headphones.

I do not have a problem with volume or clarity of sound through my
headphones, until I try to play with anything through the AUX in
connection. With that added load, the quality (and volume to a
degree) seem to get unacceptable, at least to me. Using a mixer with
the DTXpress coming in on one channel, and the other program source
(same ones I tried directly through AUX IN) through another channel,
and with the same headphones I had previously connected to the
DTXpress now connected to the mixer's headphone out, my headphone
sound is now wonderful, whether playing along with an outside source,
or without. Now, isn't that a lovely a run-on sentence?

For the record, volume=110, headphones are Koss Pro-4A's (am I dating
myself?)
