Selling my DTXpress.... :-(

Selling my DTXpress.... :-(

2002-10-09 by Tim

Well, this is a sad day (and a happy one...)
I am selling my dtxpress set. It's all standard equipment,
purchased from MusiciansFriend a year ago. Plus an extra dtxpress
module (I bought the second module about a month ago).

I can sell them separate or together...
Give me an offer if you are interested, otherwise I might put them
on ebay...

The reason I am selling?
I have decided to build a roland v-drum set...

Here are the specs on what I am building, if anyone is
interested... :-)

1 yamaha dtXTREME rack
1 Roland TD-8 module
1 Roland FD-7 hihat pedal
1 Roland KD-7 kick drum pedal
4 Roland PD-7 8.5" single zone pads
3 Roland PD-80 8" single zone v-drum pads
2 Roland CY-6 12" dual zone cymbals
1 Pintech CC102ST Dual zone 10" snare pad
1 Pintech 6" Nimrod
1 Pintech 10" Single zone Cymbal
1 Pintech 14" Single zone Cymbal

I'd say go DTXtreme all the way. It's half the price of the top of
the line V-drum set and is comparable. Ebay has lots of deals on
these sets. But if you do decide to go your route, then go with
Gibraltar hardare. Their stuff is MUCH cheaper and MUCH sturdier. I
have a GRS350C (http://www.gibraltarhardware.com/?
fa=detail&mid=262&sid=85&cid=31) holding up my mix of Roland and
Yamaha hardware (Email me if you want pics). Clamps and rod mounts
of at least half the price of Roland or Yamaha, AND, as a bonus,
it's all metal construction. The Yamaha and Roland mounts just feel
cheap compared to them. Well, that's my 2 cents..!

     clem..

That's cool. I looked at tons of racks and the only one I really
liked was yamaha's dtxtreme rack. And as far as the price for
roland's sets, I am building my set right at half the price of the
most expensive roland vdrum kit. If I were to buy a kit for the
price I am paying, it would only come with 2/3 of the pads that I am
going to add, and the rack wouldnt even allow to expand any more
pads.

Oh, I just got the td-8 module, rack, and some of the pads today,
and let me tell you, the sound quality of the module and triggering
of the pads are by far the best I have ever heard and played. All
of the good reviews that I have heard are true... :-)

The pads I got today are the rubber pads, and the sensitivity on
them are outstanding. I can even use brushes on them, which I did
not think I would be able to, and definately couldn't do on my
dtxpress set. (no offense to the set, it was a great first set and
great when I lived in an apartment, but for live performance, the
rolands are outstanding) I thought only the most expensive PD-100
and PD-120 pads would be sensitive enough to use brushes, but I am
glad i was wrong...

later...

Re: Selling my DTXpress.... :-(

I have 4 PD-7s myself. I find that they are a little on the wonky
side. That is, 2 of them work really well, 1 is decent, but the last
one is way over sensitive. It seems to react to every vibration from
the rack! I haven't been able to tame it yet, so it's just not even
hooked up to the system. I like how the Yamahas have a sensitivity
dial on the pad. The Roland just has the +/- switch, which I find
doesn't seem to do anything... Glad you like your setup. I heard
this guy demo a TD-6 module for me. He says he liked it way more
than his DTXpress b/c it was 10,000,000 times easier to program.

     clem..

on the td-8 module, you adjust the sensitivity of the pads inside the
module... its really sweet, I think there is a larger range of
adjustment than with the dial on the pads.... anyway... thats the way
i tamed mine, they were a little wonky straight out the box. :-)
