The guy probably doesn't even know his machine is infected, and this virus
is autosending itself to his adress book...
BTW, you should NEVER open an exe (or any kind of executable) no matter who
sends it to you. My very mother sent me a virus without knowing a few days
ago!

Hi Dopmi,

I am concerned to hear about this, but first, my email
address is wgardus@..., not
wgardus@yahoogroups.com. I do not respond directly to
people's posts unless they first contact me directly.
This specific post you mentioned was one that I
responded to, but again, I responded directly to the
post, with my response going back to the group's email
address, not a specific user. I have sent many emails
this week, and have Norton running on my PC, so it
does appear that someone is trying to look 'like' me,
but they are not me. Also, the way Yahoo mail works,
any attachments are scanned by Norton AV before Yahoo
mail allows them to be attached to an email, so I do
not know how this could come from anyone using Yahoo
mail (yahoogroups.com is not a Yahoo email domain).

To the general membership, I would warn everyone that
if you receive anything from a
wgardus@yahoogroups.com, it is not me, and as has been
pointed out in these notes - it may well contain a
virus.

I will certainly answer any questions that anyone may
have on this issue - I do not want my name or
reputation associated with this type of activity in
any way!

To our Moderator, can we ask you to block this
wgardus@yahoogroups.com email address, and if
appropriate, report this activity to the Yahoo Groups
support people?

Thanks,
Walt

When I looked at the post it has not shown my full email address so
let me try showing it a different way (so the tools do not hide any
of it, hopefully). My email address is wgardus @ yahoo.com, not
wgardus @ yahoogroups.com. Walt

Virus ! Don't Open mail Called " [DTXpress] Re: Firts Timer Needs Advice"

2002-10-18 by Walt

Since it appears that Yahoo Groups has some tool that scans for email
addresses in the posts and hides part of them, the domain portion of
my email address is yahoo.com, not yahoogroups.com. Walt

Virus ! Don't Open mail Called " [DTXpress] Re: Firts Timer Needs Advice"

2002-10-18 by Walt

While trying to calm down from being falsely accused of sending
viruses to other members, I was going through my Yahoo Mail bulk mail
folder and found a note in there that is very similar to what dopmi
reported he (or she?) received. In it you can clearly see that it
was sent by wgardus @ yahoogroups.com, not by me. I expanded the
message to display the full headers, and pasted it below for all to
see. Again, this is in my bulk mail folder (meaning I received it),
not my outgoing sent mail folder. It appears to have come from
Australia (froggy.com.au), not from sunny Minnesota. Walt

Relax, Walt. Anyone with more than half a brain can easily see that
someone tried to spoof your email address and send everyone a virus.
I didn't need my virus scanner to see it had a virus... It was
obvious. I just deleted it. I've come to expect crap like that from
time to time. I wouldn't worry about those who might think you
intentionally sent everyone in the group a virus using your real name
and email address--after all, they'd have less than half a brain.

Please, relax! I've received well over 20 mails containing some kind of
virus in the last half year, and 100% of the time it wasn't on purpose. If
you want an explanation, go to any AntiVirus manufacturer's page and you'll
find plenty about this topic. That's about the only explanation you need.
