Upgrading a Yamaha DTXPress

Upgrading a Yamaha DTXPress

2002-11-09 by paddchas2000

Hi everyone,

I am looking to upgrade the snare trigger on my DTXPress - I was
looking at the Roland PD80R as a likely candidate - I prefer the mesh
head. I was hoping some of you might be able to give me some advice..

- Is this a good idea (mixing mesh head pads with rubber pads)?
- Is the trigger compatible with the DTXPress brain? (full range of
sensitivity, rim-shot etc..)
- Will the trigger fit onto the DTXPress rack?

Also - if I look to move my existing snare trigger (TP80S) elsewhere -
is there anywhere I can find an additional arm for the rack?

Alternatively, does anyone have any experience making their own
triggers?

Hope you can help, thanks..

James

Hi James,

I've been using the PD80s (single trigger) as toms on
my kit for a while, and they work fine. I also have
Pintech mesh head pads on my kit - at least I did
until a recent upgrade - now I'm looking for new homes
for them

Harmony Central is a good place to find used parts and
pads, as is eBay.

James

I tried the Roland Mesh Head pads but the rim trigger does not work
with DTXPRESS. The signal that it gives is too small.

So instead I upgraded to a Yamaha RHP120SD and I love it. I got a 2
ply mesh head from Hart Dynamics for it and it works great, nice and
quiet but not bouncy.
