Hello All

Hello All

2002-11-29 by saboricua81

Hi all, just joined because I'm ready to buy a DTExpress except I
believe it's the Dtexpress2. Maybee i can get some info on the
difference between the two. Also what is the difference if any
between Dt and Rolands compatible model if any difference. I'm an
acoustic Drummer but if a don't get an electronic kit I'm gonna get
thrown out :-) I'm sure
you guys know what I mean. I hope their quiet :-) Also can I hook up
any more pads to it for a slightly larger kit.
Any info at all will be greatly appreciated and hopefully i can
return the favor when I get familiar with them.

The dtxpress II is the newer model. It features a better rack,
Three-zone inputs on all inputs, a three-zone snare pad. I think all
the pads are upgraded. I don't think the sounds are any different. You
can add two mono pads to the existing system before you run out of
inputs. Then you can upgrade to more three-zone pads for more sounds.
Most pads by other manufacturers are compatible, with a little
parameter tweaking.I don't know how they compare to Roland. Some of
the other guys in the club can help you with that.
Unless they have fixed it, the headphone volume is a bit low, so When
you buy headphones, be sure to buy the ones with the LOWEST
impedence for best volume.
Welcome to the group....Scott

Hello All

2004-01-08 by Rebecca Richards

I am new to this group, but have joined for some advice on getting
DTX,

I currently play a pearl masters (birch) and play most rock music
including some quite heavy stuff, like skunk anansie.

I love my kit but being just a silly pathetic girl, I hate dragging
all the gear around.

So would a DTX be a lighter weight option and will it cut it with the
music I play.

Thanks all

Rebecca

Hey, Rebecca,

Welcome to the club. First, hating to drag gear around hardly
qualifies you as silly and pathetic, let alone as a girl (even if you
are lucky enough to drag around the Masters Birch). There's no
question that a DTXpress rack will save you a lot of logistical
trouble, especially the impending DTXpressIII, which folds down for
transport like you wouldn't believe (the II is pretty good as well).
Being a silly and pathetic old geezer, I don't know who skunk anansie
is, but a lot of members use their e-drums to play heavy material--
some of it available to hear in our Files section. Also, edrums when
appropriately amplified and programmed, can sound absolutely
thunderous. The question has always been whether you and/or your
fellow band members and audience can hack the sight of a streamlined
e-kit in the face of big-barreled rock n roll onslaught. And edrums,
related as they are to their acoustic counterparts, play differently
from them. They require some adjustment to your style. If you have a
local Guitar Center or whatever near you with one set up, give it a
go (though don't judge it by how it sounds and feels in the store--
always notoriously bad). If the store only has Roland kits, or
Pintechs, try them instead to get an idea of what you're in for.
There are many e-drum options besides the DTXpress, but for the
money, most of us think it's the one to get; portability is a very
nice extra.

I generally agree with Ed on using e-drums for any purpose but don't think that you can just set them up and bang away. I have found that playing in different venues, on different surfaces and stage arrangements can have adverse effects on the triggers. Take a few months to learn the control settings, gain, rejection etc. before bringing the set into live action. You will probably need to adjust the set according to the setting in which you play. You will also have an out of body experience listening to yourself through amplification in a live situation.

Excellent point. And don't ever let the bass player jump up and down
on your riser. You may have to do a little fancy DIY work, in
addition to learning the internal settings for crosstalk, to prevent
unwanted triggering.

Thanks for that chaps, it all sounds pretty good to me, I have tryed
a few but you know what its like, you just have no idea until you
play it live. I like the idea of being able to pracice as well.

Told my boyfriend that I may be getting a new kit with a rack, and I
think the dirty bastard was getting other idea with how to use the
rack, He has only just stopped going on about the varous other way I
could use a drum stick. I don't know if I can take it all again, lol

Still I will hit the shops this weekend and have a good look at them.

Please try to remember this is not vdrums or edrumming that requires members
to be at least 18years of age to join. We have members in our group that are
minors. If you feel comfortable having you post read by your nine year
son/daughter future drummer then the post should be appropriate here, if it
is something that you wouldn't want your nine year old to read then it's not
something appropriate here.

Thanks,

No, I know it wasn't you. I was about to email Ed to get his opinion, then I
figure I would wait to see if anyone else notice it. I was really replying
to the original post, since you referenced it in you post. Didn't mean to
point a finger at you or at anyone really, I was just making a generally
observation.

Some subtle stuff does get posted here, but trying to explain to a youngster
the rack/drumstick reference, in my opinion, is hitting the edge, and more
appropriate for a totally adult member base group. I personally wasn't
offended, I just didn't think this wasn't the right place for it.

Ed/Vern and myself are trying to develop a closer relationship with the drum
manufacturers in order to benefit the members of this group and we just want
to make sure we are putting our best foot forward, so that people of ages
can come here and give/share information and enjoy themselves.
