has any one exclusively used the dtexpress for gigs?

i would really like to know more about that matter. is there a way
that only you hear the click in the phones but not through a PA when
you hook the dtxpress up through the line out plugs?
how do you get a nice general mix between all your drums and
cymbals. it sounds to me like the snare is not really loud enough
even though i turned it all the way up to 127 and the bass drum
aswell.
and tell me about any live situations where anyone has used just the
dtexpress as the drumset! thanks a lot

I use just the DTXpress for gigging. I have a great balance. When I
let some one else play my kit, when I go out and listen, it is
awesome. The only way you can tell it isn't an acoustic kit is... it
sounds BETTER!
You have front-panel volume control for snare and kick, as well as
groups of the other stuff. To get a good balance, you have to set up
your kit with the main sound systen you will be using FACING you. This
is the only way you can tell what is going on. If you have the snare
and kick all the way up, you will have to turn down the other voices,
and then turn the whole drum mix volume up.
And when you play live, good drum monitors are a MUST. You have to
hear what you are playing, (and so does the rest of the band. You may
not hear that the snare and kick are actually loud enough if you can't
hear them.
I have found a small PA works best for on-stage monitoring. Two
speakers as side fill lets everyone, including you, hear what's
happening. Also, you need at least 15" speakers!!!!
There is No way to separate the click from the mix.

thank you very much for the usefull advice scott. you see i have
been playing acoustic for a good 15 years now and i bought myself a
dtxpress so i could take it from germany to boston, berklee collegel
of music. i could not have taken my acoustic set to the usa, so i
figured this would be perfect for me. and it is i can practise on it
6 hours every day without anyone complaining, day or night. it
doesn't matter. I was very amazed by the cool sounds that are on the
dtxpress. and in a way i like many of them better than the roland
ones. since i bought it mostly for practising i wanted to knows as
much as possible about gigging experience others have had with it!
thanks again, and now i might just go ahead and try it for a gig or
two!

Just a bit of input for you about gigging. I found it
extremely helpful to replace some of those flimsy
plastic clamps with metal ones. That made the entire
rack much more stable and easier to setup and
teardown. I replaced the kick tower with a pintech
"verti-kik" (I hope I spelled it right) and since the
headphone volume is a bit low I took a monitor speaker
with me. I gigged for 6 months straight about twice a
week with my dtxpress after doing these things and it
made life much easier. I also carried a spare power
adapter and a few stereo 1/4" cables jyst in case but
never needed them. I hope this helps. -Joe
