Upgrading my DTXpress

Upgrading my DTXpress

2002-12-11 by Ben Stuyts

Dear group,

I have the original DTXpress with 5 x TP60 and 2 x PCY80. I'd like to
upgrade it with some dual-zone pads. I have some questions about this:

First for the snare: TP65S or TP80S? What's the difference?
I'd also like to have a PCY80S or PCY65S. Again, what's the difference?
Do these pads include a cable or do I have to order this separately?
Any gotcha's I should be aware of?

Can I still use my old TP60 and PCY80 that will be left over? Perhaps with
a splitter on input 9/10? Are CYAT80 and TPCL80 the correct holders to order?

Lots of questions, thanks for taking the time!
Ben

Hi Ben,

The 65S and 80S are the same size, but the former has the capacity
for three sounds (body and two rims) and the latter only two (body
and rim). Since your original DTXPU module can't accommodate three-
sound pads, the 65S would seem to be overkill, except for the fact
that it lists for considerably less money than the 80s. You might
want to buy it and use it at 2/3 capacity for that reason alone. The
two PCY-S versions are basically the same stereo cymbals with
choking. The 65-S has a new texture. Both should work with your
module. I know that Drum Central Superstore sells them with cables
included. The policy may vary from store to store. Your old mono
pads can go into 9/10 with a splitter.
