making a splash?

making a splash?

2002-12-23 by mkotke <mkotke@yahoo.com>

I have another (maybe dumb) question about the DTX-2 before I rush
out and buy it. Is it possible to make one of the pads into a splash
(or does the module come with a splash effect pre-programmed)? If I
need to make one on my own, how hard is it? I've only had a chance
to fool around with the pre-programmed kits at the music shop so far,
and since I'm currently living overseas, there's something of a
language barrier which excludes detailed conversation between myself
and the clerks ;) Heck, I may not even get an English manual!

Thanks again...

There were splash cymbal sounds in the first dtxpress
units. I don't think yamaha would leave something
like that out of a newer drum module. If it isn't in
there you can still get something similar to the sound
you want. I found that with the dtxpress being
limited on the volume it puts out the splash sounds
were not loud enough for me (I have the older module).
So what I do is set a high crash sound on the pad and
raise the pitch setting until it sounds like a splash.
It gives me a louder splash sound that cuts through
the total band's mix much better.

Hi,

I have the DTXpress I and am using a PCY80S as my crash with the rim set to a splash. It works pretty good and you still get the chokable crash!

Just my $0.02...
