Ordered it already...

Ordered it already...

2000-02-18 by Jarmo Pikka

Hi all,

Yes! Today I made my decision and ordered my DTX kit. DS12 consist of
DTXV2.0 module with double bass feature and six pads. Any tips for first
time user, I mean what are the first things must do when opened the boxes?
Yeah, I know stupid question, but I want to make everything right from the
beginning.

Cheers,

Jarmo

Hi guys,

I'm also on the verge of (finally!) getting an Edrum kit, and I'm
looking at both the DTX2.0 and Roland's V-Custom set.

Musician's Gear (www.musicians-gear.com) are offering some
really good prices on both - basically, I can get a more or less
top of the range DTX kit (6 stereo pads, cymbals, kick tower,
bar pad, bell triggers etc) for about 1400 UKP, or a V-Custom
set for about the same (kick, snare, three toms, two cymbal pads
and a hihat pad).

Up until now I've been looking at the DTX, as I like the fact that
it's quite compact (I've played on a friend's DTX1 a few times) and
it's cheaper than the V-kits, meaning I can get more pads/flexibility
for my money, but as I already have a Yamaha drum module (RM50)
with the (very typically Yamaha) sounds I'm thinking that the
V-Custom may be better in terms of sounds for me (and I know
the V-kits are supposed to be better to play).

Anyone who has a DTX2 - I'd like to know how the pads are configured:
I know there's 8 stereo pad inputs which presumably accomodate
the snare, hihat pad, four toms and two cymbals, and then there's four
extra trigger channels for other stuff. Does the "bell" trigger plug
into
a separate trigger channel, or does it piggyback onto the cymbals
trigger
signal? And the bar pad - does that need a trigger input or does that
go into the footpedal inputs? I guess I'm just trying to find out the
maximum configuration I can have before I order the pads and run
out of trigger inputs on the DTX! (Actually, my RM50 has trigger
inputs too, but I'd like to keep the kit fairly self contained).

Also, do leads to connect up the pads come with the DTX2/DTXpress?

Anyway, just saying hello, I've been reading the archives of this list
and will lurk around for a while before I finally take the plunge.
I've
wanted a kit since I was about 14, and I used to wear out my parents
sofas with my drumsticks... :)

Cheers!

That's my DS10 set up.

Not sure.

Yes, and they're cute. I fastened mine to the rack with the handy velcro
straps included and put little tags near the brain-end jacks so I can
quickly reconnect the module after a move. I move the rack as one piece with
cables in place.

Congratulations.

There's not much preparation necessary other than getting a carpet about 5
by 5 feet. Your kit will come with a bunch of keepers to help you set up and
tear down while preserving your configuration. Do those last.

Think about where you want the brain to go...left or right side, since that
could affect where you put your tubes. I actually decided not to mount my
brain on the rack, and instead it's on an old Coke crate under the fourth
tom. Call me a worrier, but why subject the electronics to the constant
vibration of the rack? I mounted a peg to said crate which the brain clamps
to, so it doesn't fall off. Good place to put your beer too, and pictures of
your kids.

This also freed up a few bosses and tubes to further customize my set up.

I fastened my leads to the rack with the handy velcro straps included and
put tags near the brain-end jacks so I can quickly reconnect the module
since I move the rack as one piece with cables in place.

When you clamp the pedal to the kick tower watch that the clamp doesn't
alter the angle of the tower creating a hump effect and less than parallel
hits on the block.

I toe-in my rack feet for added stability.
