Important Midi cable information if not working

Important Midi cable information if not working

2003-01-06 by roilion41 <roilion@iname.com>

I had to switch my in and out midi cable on the DTXpress module...
I don't know if this is normal but my cable tagged with the "in" have
to go in the "out" on the module and the "out" cable in the "in".
That mean that the compagnie that makes my cable probably think that
the "in" means the "in" of the computer but Yamaha module is
showing "in" for incoming data to the module...
All that to say that if you have problem with the midi communication
cables try to switch them, it worked for me!

What brand of cable were you using that gave you this problem? I am
going to buy the Yamaha PC2 midi cable from musicians friend, have
you checked that one out? I'm assuming thats what I need to hook it
up to my computer.

It's not a Yamaha cable, maybe they don't have the same in and out i.d. problem? And it's not really a problem when you know how to plug them, since I switched them it's working find. If you ever encounter problem with your new cable give it a try and switch them...

Mine is not a Yamaha cable but you need a cable with midi in and out
and a serial connector at the other end to go in your game port on
your sound card. I'm sure it will work if it's the Yamaha midi cable
but if you ever encounter problem it worth to give it a try, just
switch them. You also have to choose your sound card midi device, on
my sound blaster live value I have to select "SB Live! Midi UART"
with the DTXchange to upload or download SySex files.
Go there for more info, they also talk about midi cable:

Actually that is normal, in cable you have 'IN' which mean 'in to computer', and of course you set that to 'out from midi source', so markings in/out in cable means in/out in computer (other midi device) side.
