Midi Sequencing Software

I am looking for recommendations on midi sequencing software/home studio software for my pc. Are there any that are better for use with the Yamaha DTX products? I'm also looking for low cost, as I am a newbie who doesn't want to invest a bunch of money into something that I may be overwhelmed by and loose interest in. Any input would be appreciated!
