Hi Hat problem on my DTX v2.0

Hi Hat problem on my DTX v2.0

2003-01-11 by brianlad2000 <inazone230@bolt.com>

Hi All,

I am having a problem with my hihat peddle. It seems to be
reversed? when it is open it gives a closed sound and when it is
closed it gives an open sound!

Ihave checked the input and it seemd right! Help please as it is
wrecking my mojo!!

THanking you in advance!

Brian from Dublin Ireland

Hi Brian,

Does it happen on the Yamaha kits, or just on the user kits? Maybe
you have the sounds programmed in reverse. Start with one of the
default kits. Put your foot on the pedal, hit the pad, and find a
closed hh voice at the back of the manual that you like. Then
release your foot, hit the pad, and find an open voice to go with
it. If the hh works as expected, then nothing is wrong with the
controller. But if the voices are reversed on the default as well as
user kits, then the problem is going to require more thought. Most
likely, the signals are getting crossed somehow in the unit. Let us
know.

Hi Brian,

This may seem like a silly question, but here goes
anyway - when you power up your module is your foot on
your HH pedal? If so, don't do that...

Thanks for the suggestions guys but it happens on both user kits and
yamaha kits and it happens when I switch it on and I have not got my
foot on it!

Also to make it more confusing I was playing the kit later and the hi
hat was working properly for a good while and then later in the day I
went back to it and it was back to the reverse way?? Weird eh?

Yeah, really weird. Any chance of you getting another controller
from the music store and trying it? Just to make sure that the
module isn't screwing up somehow, are you able to program a closed
hh sound and an open one on separate pads w/o any drift? It just
seems like the controller's at fault, especially since it does work
at times.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: Hi Hat problem on my DTX v2.0

Hi Brian,

What model HH pedal do you have? The Yamaha modules
try to sense which polarity all of the components have
when it powers up, which is why I asked the question
about having the pedal pressed when you power on the
module. If your pedal has a polarity switch you may
want to try setting it to the other position, or also
switching it back and forth a few times to make sure
it is making good contact. The other thing I would
suggest is swapping the cable to make sure it doesn't
have a partial short circuit somewhere. After that,
and assuming it is an HH60 or HH80 pedal, I can't
think of what may be wrong, and would agree with Ed
that it may be time to have it checked by a
professional. Walt
