Headphones Revisited

2000-03-21 by Richard C. MacDonald

Hi all,
First off, many thanks to Mark Owen for the "headphones 101" course last week. I'd been thinking about getting some new ones and he put me over the top. I got the 'phones I was previously using in 1980, so I figured that the technology had progressed somewhat since that Clash-fueled, somewhat hazy time of my life. I went to the link for Headroom and checked out the Sennheiser's that he found. These guys are serious headphone geeks. There can't be too many people around with a headphone jones like the boys at Headroom. You get the idea. I got the feeling that I could trust 'em.
Knowing absolutely nothing about modern headphones though (and being the researching type), I then looked for other info on 'phones around the web and ran into nothing but very good reviews for the Sennheiser HD200's in question, and no-one with a better price than Headroom (US$79.00!). So I ordered them. If you are into spending more, these guys can also take care of you...No problem.
They came today (2nd day air for $5.00!) and for the first time, I'm driving the sound from the DTXpress rather than my keyboard amp. It is actually loud enough (as several of you have said) and sounds amazing (ok, so you said that too). Did you guys know that that this machine puts out in stereo?! Ok, so I knew that before, but hadn't heard it until today. Anyway, I second Mark's recommendation to get some good 'phones and really hear your DTXpress for the first time.
Later,
Rick
