New User - Silly Questions

New User - Silly Questions

2003-03-17 by bpocred

Alright Guys
After months of deliberation I finally took the plunge about two
weeks ago and purchased a DTXpress. I am awaiting delivery of a set
of Sennheiser headphones and up to now I have hooked the kit up to my
brothers 40W guitar amp....and I am really really impressed with the
kit. To date I have yet to get stuck into the real features of the
kit but as soon as the headphones arrive try stop me. In the mean
time I have a few questions regarding cables. These are

1. What cable do I require to connect my stereo into the AUX IN
input. I have a Sony CMTCP100 mini system.

2. What cable can I use to connect my laptop straight to the module.
I do not have any external sound card devices.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Brian

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the fold. If you like the sound of the kit through the
40W guitar amp, wait until you can refine it through your
Sennheisers or expand it through a beefier keyboard amp or PA.

Your cable connection from the Sony will depend on the jack
situation at its output. If dual mono RCAs come out of the back,
then you'll need a Y adaptor to make the input connection to the
module via a 1/8" stereo jack. Presumably one female end of the Y
would accept the left and right male RCAs from the Sony, and the
other female end would accept the single 1/8" stereo male jack that
connects to the module. Obviously, the easier connection would be a
single i/8" stereo cable out of Sony into the 1/8" stereo input on
the Yamaha. Whatver the cabling situation, you'll be able to play
along with any source that runs through the Sony's inputs to its
output.

As for you laptop, I don't know what your soundcard situation it,
but one way or another, you'll need midi cables to go in and out of
the module to the laptop, depending on what you want to do. You may
well need an external midi device that enters your computer via a
USB cable. Check out this page from Cakewalk, which outlines some of
your options: http://www.cakewalk.com/Tips/TechTipMar02_1.asp. Post
again with more specific questions as they arise.
