KP60 inovative fix?

KP60 inovative fix?

2003-03-24 by creighton_higgins

I have been one of the folks moaning about problems with the KP60
which shipped with the original DTXpress. Current circunstances have
prohibited me from replacing it with something excellent- (kids in
college, etc.).

This weekend when the leads disintegrated on the piezzo for the third
time I built a trigger pad based on a Remo tunable practice pad.
(just like many of the DIY articles show.)I removed the rubber
striking surface from the kick tower and installed the Remo. I am
finding that my double triggers are gone, that I have much more
dynamic range, and that the pad feels much more "natural" than the
rubber block. The pad is, however, much louder than the original and
maybe projects 1/2" or so closer to the beater than the original.

If anyone is interested, I'll take some pictures of the setup and
will let you know how it endures.

Creighton,

Nice ingenuity. You have two kids in college? How on earth did you
ever afford the Remo practice pad? Is there any possibility of
covering the pad with a thin layer of rubber, say, from a mouse pad
to cut down on the noise?

Hey Ed
Actually- 1 complete, 1 finishes this spring and 2 more to go. Good
idea on the rubber layer. I am enjoying the response of the pad-
wonder how it will feel? I'll let you know soon as I can raise the
money for a couple inches of double-sided tape.---

Creighton,

I'm the 52-year-old proud father of a girl who's turning four next
month. What do you think I'll be paying for her college education?
My estimate is roughly $7.000.000 per year, that is, if she gets a
scholarship.

God, I swear I'm one lucky bastard. My KP-60 is still chugging along,
good as new with no fixes necessary. I must have the only one they
made right.

Creighton,

What's odd for me is that my daughter missed my heavy musical years.
I tried without much success to hunt down some of the tapes of
concerts and sessions that I did back in the Dark Ages. I never
thought about them much at the time, and now it seems a little sad
that Cate won't know that part of my history, especially since, for
some strange reason, she is an enormous fan of the Beatles.

good lord ed-
I feel bad cause I'm 52 and my youngest is 10. Sometimes we just put 1 foot in front of the other , move forward and hope for the best. I do stay on top of their school performance tho- because scholarships are essential. So far the kids have not let me down. The plus side is that I think us older guys make great dads. 4-year-olds are great and there is something special about little girls and their dads. Sadly none of mine seem to get the drum thing- ah well.

Jim,

You are the lucky one. When I think of all of the people whose KP60s
went south on them over the last three years, I can only marvel at
yours, though there's always a chance, I guess, that you're in the
KP60 silent majority. Nah, I prefer to see you as basking in good
fortune, destined to drum without hindrance for the rest of your
life.

Did you all put headphones and play music over the womb while your
wives were pregnant? I heard that produces instant rock stars!
Just look at me, I was born with a mini cocktail kit!

Re: KP60 inovative fix?

Well, I'll tell you, UNH, whenever music played in the house, Cate
bounced around in the womb like you wouldn't believe. The only other
thing that she responded to like that was my wife eating M&Ms. But
she's more into ballet than rock n' roll (except, of course, the
Beatles, who are worthy of the dance).
