"Mystery" mystery solved! :)

"Mystery" mystery solved! :)

2003-05-06 by Vernon Graner

Just a quick note in case some of you haven't run into this before...

I was playing a demo of my DTXPressII for a friend recently and had
gotten to the Mystery kit. I noticed that the two tom sounds weren't
playing when the pads were struck. The "wandering" muted trumpet sound
and minor chord changes were just.... gone. So, I switched kits, and the
pads work fine on other kits! A "Mystery" mystery, if you will. :) When
in the Mystery kit, I noticed the pad impact indicators were jumping up
just as they are supposed to when I strike the pads, and all other pads
seemed to work, but the two middle pads would make no sound. After my
friend left, I spent about an hour reading the manual and playing with
settings and even did a couple of factory resets. Unfortunately, I still
was without any sound from those pads! So, what was the solution? I won't
keep you in suspense anymore...

The *accompaniment* volume was all the way down!!! :D

Arg. So simple yet tripped me up completely for over an hour! So, if you
notice a mysterious hole in your mystery kit (or other kits that rely on
the General MIDI instruments) make sure your accompaniment volume hasn't
been zeroed out! :)

Vern,

Maybe this is the answer to Raven's question; the mystery kit sounds
are basically pad songs.
