Be sure to check out Giles' website. He has a bunch of cool tips and stuff
on there. I don't remember his URL, though. I'm sure he could be persuaded
to post it again.

I think mixing the DTXpress with acoustic drums is a great idea. I played
a gig earlier this summer with a friends V-drums as the main kit and I
used an Octapad to trigger the DTXpress brain. It worked out very well!

I know I will be spending my evening putting it together and I am already itching to play my own and not the demo model.

My plan is once I get all the sets put together with the sounds that I want I will add in my piccilo snare and various crash and splash cymbals. I have talked with other electronic drummers and all of them have liked the mixture.

Hi

I'm using an acoustic snare and a couple of "real"
cymbals with the DTXpress. I'm also going to use a
real hi-hat for live work - there's really no
substitute.

The Web address again (sorry I've not updated the site
for ages - perhaps someone's got some ideas for
expansion??)

It is good to know that I don't have to give up the comfortableness of the
acoustic set just yet. I spent several hours last night setting at the kit
exploring and trying voices. Have you found a voice that works well for toms?
All the ones I was using sounded electronic and not that good wood sound. I
tried the Maple selections but it was a little hollow. Is it an issue of
tuning or reverb level?

Thanks for the letter. I looked at your site yesterday as I was scrolling
through the message archives. It had no meaning until I was actually sitting
at the set and recognized some fine tuning points from your tips section.

Take it easy,

Scott

Giles,

I was trudgig around your site today and found that the link for synthony has changed to the following:

http://www.synthony.com/Products/dtxpress.html

My browser errored out until I started at the base page and followed their links to the DTXpress.

I thought you would like to know

Until you start layering voices, which can really fatten up any sound, check
out the "Room" tom sounds (T, #75-78), tune them to your preferred pitch,
and add some reverb for a quick, nice tom setup. I recently added some
reverb to my entire "rock" kit and it really helped.

I will try that the next time I am able to sit down again. I did find one cool setting under the reverb master setting. If I put the reverb to one of the "room" settings it seems to get close to the sound I am looking for on that one kit. It is funny that I/we spend so much money on digital and then spend so much time trying to make it sound acoustic :) Hmmmmm
