OK, I've abandoned the canned music Idea, and just figured that I'll just
wow the audience with effects...Good Plan I think. I have a question for
anyone who can help. Does anyone know where I can pick up the RS80
Rack? Just the rack? maybe an online store or something , I can't seem
to find it separately. It looks a little more sturdy than the RS60 that
the DTXPRESS came with, or better yet, Does yamaha offer extender bars or
something to make it a bit bigger to fit more pads? My plan is to build
the ultimate E-drum kit, I've had it with acoustics, to big bulky and
heavy, Even a small four piece is a chore to get around, and it doesn't
make all those cool effect noises that can really spice up a tune. I so I
need a bigger rack I'm looking into the DTX2 brain(don't get mad at me) and
some more Dual zone pads. any Ideas on the rack?

Hi Herb,
Since I couldn't find any Yamaha mounts in my area when I added a pad, I
picked up a Roland mounting arm and it works fine. Since it fit the tube
size on my RS60 rack and the mounting hole on the pad, I'm assuming that the
Roland rack system would work fine with the DTXpress mounts as well. I think
the tube sizes on most rack systems are somewhat standardized so you should
be able to find an expandable and beefier rack at most good music shops or
online stores that will work fine with the DTXpress hardware you've got.

Have a look at the Gibraltor rack: more solid, flexible
(customizable) and cheaper. http://www.kamanmusic.com/

I use a Gibraltar rack :)

I wouldn't recommend it, the metal framework tends to transmit vibration
more than the plastic racks designed for the e-drums, you get more cross
talk between pads on a metal rack.

Yeah you are probably right,I had not thought of vibration
transmission causing false triggering. I've only used their
rack for acoustic set-ups. I plan to put my Logiztix snare
(mesh-heads with dual triggers to use in input 9/10)on a
regular snare stand, so my only crosstalk issue will likely
be between rim and pad. Also adding a Pintech "dingbat" ($35
us) for perc. effects and kit inc./dec.

Re: extra's

2000-09-20 by Terje Vanvik

Hi

I am planning to expand my dtxpress. A local guy is offering me a
used Roland TD-10 module plus 1 Pd-120, 1 Pd-100, 1 Pd-7, 1 Pd-9 and
1 Kd-7, all for appr. 600$. Since the RS-60 is more or less exhausted
in it`s original configuration, I started to look for alternatives.
The Gibraltar and Tama rack did not fit my budget, and then it struck
me; I have allready got all the clamps from the RS-60. So I went to a
metal hardware shop and bought 6 meters of light steel pipes (38 mm
outer diameter) which I cut in 5 105 centimeter lengths and one 75
centimeter. Using the pipes and the original clamps I build a three
sided "Gibraltar-type" rack. (I also used the original RS-60 front
horizontal pipe) The 105 cm lenghts makes up the four vertical and
the front horizontal pipes, while the 75 cm and the original pipe
makes up the sides. I had three clamps left after I finnished the
rack, and I used one of them to build a more flexible ride cymbal
setup. If anyone is interested in pictures of my rack, please send me
a mail and I will mail them to you.
