Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

hi all!

I have some questions about midi connections and dtxpress. 
When I connect dtxpress to my pc (os:win2000) via "to host" cable, 
after I hit a pad, there is always a little delay before I hear a 
sound. 
It becomes very annoying when I try to edit (midi) drums over an 
audio file. Midi sound is heard after a delay and it is impossible to 
synchronize with the audio file while playing. Can anybody help me 
with this?

My next question is also midi related and somehow connected with the 
previous one:
I bought a midi controller keyboard (yamaha cbx-k1) to record bass 
and other partitions. I am using dtxpress sounds (dtxpress brain in 
other words :)) as the sound module. My problem is, I cannot control 
dtxpress sounds from midi controller. I can change patches with the 
help of a program such as cubase or voyetra recorder, however, I 
cannot change patches directly from keyboard. 
(delay problem is doubled when I connected midi controller to 
dtxpress via normal midi cable while dtxpress was still connected to 
my pc via "to host" cable)

Hi Cem,

Probably not me. Think of this reply as killing time while you wait 
for a better one. Things are often slow on the weekends. I'm near a 
computer today because my wife told me that it's International Paint 
the Livingroom Day, and I'm taking a break from latex fumes. 

I assume that there's no IRQ conflict with your COM Port and the "To 
Host" serial connection, that you have flipped the switch on the back 
of the DTXpress, and that you have the proper driver installed on 
your PC. For lack of a better theory, maybe the serial connection is 
more susceptible to latency than a USB port or straight MIDI 
connection to your sound card would be. It's also possible that 
Windows 2000 (about which I know close to nothing) is responsible. On 
XP, I think that latency can be helped by right-clicking My Computer 
to Properties and eventually to perfomance options. Setting here to 
optimize it for background services rather than applications often 
seems to help. Is there anything comparable on 2000?

Latency aside, this problem sounds solveable. While you're waiting 
for genuine help, you might check out Tweak's Drum Tips via our Links 
section, which is strong on MIDI techniques and problems. Maybe 
browsing some of the articles there will help you to troubleshoot.
