ConcertCast snare continued.

ConcertCast snare continued.

2003-09-26 by yoavf21

Hi guys,

Thanks to stephen I could set the snare settings right but there's a
small problem.

I can't get the rim sound to trigger proprely (ie without also
triggering the snare sound), unless I set the trigger type to DT
Snare (instead of misc 2) but then the snare itself sound like crap.

Btw I decided to connect it to 9/10 input, and I left the old 3zone
snare in input 2 for effect cowbels etc use. The kit looks and feels
great, with just the addition of a snare stand - I completely
modified the rack to fit this, but It really feels great.
I'll post some pics soon.

So, everything works perfectly except the rim sound. Any help would
be greatly appreciated

Happy new year.

Yoav,

Just a thought: input 9/10 seems to be less responsive than inputs 1-
6, which can be further adjusted with the DIP sensitivity switches in
the back of the module, which are tailor-made for the DT setting. I
remember having Pintech meshes that didn't trigger well through 9/10
but worked much better with the DT snare setting in one of the first
6. I don't know if you tried to set rejection parameters to deal with
the problem. They might help, but if you have to set them too high,
they will defeat your purpose. You might also reduce the gain and
raise the minimum velocity of whichever trigger is misbehaving. I
seem to recall that Stephen had trouble with crosstalk between the
rim and head, though I may be wrong. The mesh set to DT snare at
high sensitivity might be a better bet in the end.

I found this post and am having similar problems with a ConcertCast
10" snare. I own a DTXpress I and when I replaced the stereo Yamaha
pad with the Pintech the rim trigger wouldn't register or make a
sound. I plugged it in to the 9/10 and presto rim and pad working
like they are supposed to.

Is there a way to trick the old brains into playing a different brand
snare on the #2 snare input? I can use 9/10 but already have that
split out to 2 other pads.

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Scott

It's nothing to do with the age of the module. The Pintech is a dual-
piezo pad - one for head, one for rim - but the Yamaha inputs 1
through 8 are stereo, with one piezo for the pad and a switch for
the rim. You can either plug the pad into #2 and split the rim out
to 9 or 10 (which has the benefit that the stock kits will basically
work ok) or just split it into 9/10.

Thanks for the info ... The funny thing was I plugged the same snare into a
DTXPress II and it picked up the rim and pad on the #2 input ... Time to
upgrade I guess!

No, that was pure luck I'm afraid. No current Yamaha module has dual-
piezo snare inputs. It will have been simple good fortune that the
rim strike generated a signal whose shape was "seen" by the module
as if it was a switch transition at exactly the same time as it
picked up a main pad strike, which is how the rim switch works. You
can't rely on that being consistent.

Ahhh ... that does make sense ... I guess it will go into 9/10 and I am on
reconfiguration 153 for the 3 1/2 years that I have had this kit 8~)

Thanks for your response Stewart

Pah, you're not even trying. I can get that high in a single night...

speaking of this, I was fantasizing last night (wait
that sounds weird....nevermind...) just before I fell
asleep about Pintech having a closer relationship with
Yamaha, and producing a DTXpress compatible three-zone
woven head snare, in my dreams that was sooooo sweet..
now that I'm awake, it still seems pretty cool, id go
for a 10" Snare so it wouldn't look too big compared
to the pads, anyway, It would also be cool to use zone
9/10 for a concertcast 10" Snare and use the TP65S for
other 3 sounds.
