Have u tried recording using your sequencer program
and use event list to see what's in the track?
Yamaha devices normally outputs "MIDI running
status" and that could be why your interface monitor shows the fast flickering
(it's even got this on the "old" DX7 synth!)
The sequencing programs would usually have some
sort of MIDI indicator that shows MIDI I/O activity. What happens to this
monitor when u hit a pad?

Subject: [DTXpress] output midi issue
with dtx2
hi there all,
I'm having trouble with the MIDI on my DTX 2. what happens is that when i
plug a MIDI cable from the MIDI out of my DTX 2 to the MIDI in on my
sound card interface (a Delta 1010) the MIDI activity indication LED
lights constantly, well actually it is pulsing at a very hi frequency that
almost looks like its always on. also none of the note data (i.e. pad being
struck) is is getting through to any app capable of receiving MIDI and or
recording MIDI.
and yes all cables are fine and the switch on the back is set to
MIDI.
so any help would be much appreciated
