Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

Can I use a choke type cymbal and get it to work with a dtxpress 1 
module and be able to use the choke function?

Also can someone help me with how to hook up the hi hat pedal as a 
second bass? I have tried but it doesn't seem right. It triggers when 
I release, not when I press.

I can't answer the question about the cymbal pad.

As far as the Hi-hat goes...
assuming that the DTXpress I Hi-hat pedal interacts with the module 
in the same fashion as the DTXpress II does, are you keeping your 
foot on the pedal when you set the voice. If you push the pedal 
down, take your foot off of it, and then set the voice you would be 
associating the bass voice with an open Hi-hat. Does that make sense.

Based on your description, that was the first thing I thought of.

The dtxpress I module works with cymbals that can choke; in fact, it 
shipped with one.

By all means, keep your foot off the pedal when you program it. Also, 
connect the pedal into 9/10, or some other free input, not into the 
hi hat controller input.
