How/were, do I get backing music to play along with, with the
drum parts muted or missing apart from whats built into the
machine. Are there midi files or other formats out there ,if there
is how do I get it.

For CDs, you can try the Turn It Up series from Modern Drummer
(http://www.moderndrummer.com/turn_it_up.html), which features
various bass players laying down grooves for drummers to accompany,
or the Music Minus One series, which I used as a kid but definitely
aren't just for kids, which presents various musical settings for
instrumentalists to accompany (run a Google on it). Another option is
go to one of the numerous MIDI sites on the web. I don't do that so I
don't have any addresses handy. If you're a greybeard like me, you
might recall that many of the early stereo rock recordings from the
1960s (including the Beatles) panned the drums hard left or hard
right, allowing you to mute the stereo side with the drums and send
the result into the aux input on the DTXpress for you to serve as the
drummer. Just a thought.

You need to go to a good sheet music store. There is a series called "MUSIC
MINUS ONE". It comes with the music CD that has the whole band on one side, the
other side is minus the other instrument. You can also get it with the sheet
music/drum chart. MUSIC MINUS ONE has rock, jazz, orchestra, country, etc.
music. There are other companies besides MUSIC MINUS ONE. Try this link -

I did a search on Google for Music Minus One and came up with this.
