2 THINGS.... :)

2 THINGS.... :)

2003-10-30 by JAMES HUGHES

HI ALL! Its been a while since I've posted, I have been reading the
boards tho faithfully everyday. Anyhoo, here's my questions:

1. I've seen a whole bunch of really awesome kits in the pics section,
and i was wondering if i could hear some of these kits in
action ,maybe some members could record a small solo, and add the mp3
to the files section ...under "kits in action". or if youve recorded
a song or something with the drums on it would be swell!

2. Adding midi files from my comp to the dtxpressII module, in user
songs..... I have about 1000 or so midi files from the net of almost
every genre, and would love to add these files ... or 32 anyway to my
user songs section... would i be able to do this , if i edit the
songs in cakewalk, and take out the drum parts , then save the file,
could i upload it at all, and how? and would I need the comp to play
them all the time, or can I disconnect to play live with the band.

Thanks for your time.

Jaymz.

Hi Jaymz,

So it's not just people's user kits that you want to hear; it's the
people actually playing them. Yikes. Maybe if there's enough
interest, and enough people with the capacity to make MP3s, or even
WAVs, we can set something up in DTXpressions. When Vern's finished
scaring the neighborhood kids (Halloween, you see; insert smiley face
here please), we'll look into it.

This isn't my strong suit, so I could be all wet. My understanding is
that you can record songs from a sequencer to the DTXpress only one
track at a time; that is, no bulk dump to fill the user song slots in
one fell swoop. However, material that has already been set up in the
DTXpress and dumped elsewhere for storage or exchange should be able
to come back in bulk. Maybe someone will help us out. Anyway, user
songs recorded to the DTXpress sequencer no longer need the computer
to play, though obviously external sequencer material played through
the DTXpress to be accompanied by the kit will always depend on the
computer.

I was in the studio last week and asked the engineer to indulge me
letting play a solo and recording it. He did. I have it on CD, but I
have no clue how to convert it to and .mp3 or .wav file. If someone
can let me know how to do this, I'd be happy to upload it.

You need to "rip" the CD track to MP3, using something like this:

Thanks. I'll try it this weekend.

This is a good subject that has come along a couple of times. I know
I'm not the drummer that makes the DTXpress sound in the most
optimal way, but I added a link to an MP3 that my band and I made
(at my attic :). For this purpose I took the freedom to make a
folder in the 'links' section with the name 'kits in action'.
Because I'm not sure how much disk space we have at yahoo, I didn't
upload the file itself. I hope many will follow (so my link will end
up less prominent :)

Thanks, Erik. That will be useful. Maybe after the weekend, we can
look into setting up a sub-area at DTXpressions.
