The "S" denotes stereo, which in this case denotes an edge switch with choking capability. Presumably you'll be using input 6 or 7 (9/10 is the only input on the DTXpress I, I believe, that is incapable of stereo functions). Enter the Trigger Setup Edit Mode. The first page that you'll encounter is "Pad Type." If you have one of the Yamaha "S" cymbals, choose PCY ride or PCY crash; you can also try misc 2, 4, 6 for other companies' chokable cymbals (or even Yamaha's if you want to experiment). That's the long and short of it. If you have further problems, just holler. Ed

Ok... can you use a TP80S and get the same response. Also don't I need to change the rim voice for that pad? If so to what? --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "liberatusvirus" <liberatusvirus@y...> wrote: > --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "rtmtdrummer" <rtmtdrummer@y...> > wrote: > > How do you set this up to choke a cymbal on the dtxpress 1. > > Can somone tell the settings? thanks > > Howdy Rtmt, > > First, you have to make sure that you have a chokable cymbal--the > PCY80S and 65S being the Yamaha models. Ok so how does it know to choke instead of triggering the rim switch voice. Can I use the TP80S for this, or does it have to be a stero cymbal? --- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "liberatusvirus" <liberatusvirus@y...> wrote:

It is a timing event. If you just strike the edge, the length of time the rim contact is closed is very small. If you grap the edge, the contact time is longer and is interpeted as a "choking" event.
