Recently I bought a "imic" (a little USB device that act as a sound card) for my ibook and I recorded some songs with my DTXpress I. Here you have one of them: http://drjoo.ath.cx/personal/coses/night.ogg I know, i know... but I'm a beginner.

Unfortunately, my XP OS can't open it. Ed

VTIS: You may want to rethink the use of OGG audio files, not many people can open them. Try WAV files or the ever popular MP3. I would suggest MP3 simply for file size is small and downloads quickly. gord. vtis0145 wrote:

Winamp 2 can play ogg files nicely (i don't know about winamp3). ogg-endoded files are of better quality than the very popular mp3. And I use ogg because, as they say on their site, Ogg Vorbis is a completely open, patent-free, professional audio encoding and streaming technology with all the benefits of Open Source. Don't be afraid. Download winamp, don't trust microsoft as if they were the only systems provider of the whole world. I tell you, microsoft has never invented anything. The only thing that microsoft wants is to make impossible to think of alternate technologies. And I don't use windows (i use linux), and I don't have a wma encoder. Please, don't ban something without doing a minimum research. There are many free ogg players out there you can download.

Hi there vtis0145, If you're using an iBook, why arn't you using iTunes? Sounds like you're running windows really? Alex

But your track sounds quite sharp, maybe turn up the backing volume and consider taking down the snare a little to give it a nice mix. Overall I do like your playing, I tend to put fills and crap all over the place, and your playing is rather like my father's - solid. Try and experiment? Good playing, Alex P.S. If I get my DTX II soon, I'll post something up too!

I play drums for hobby. I was in a local band some time ago. We did some police and queen versions. Good times. And you're right. The backing volume is too low. I did not realize it while I was playing, but I have to admit it. For the snare... I like to hear a strong snare. Probably you're right too.. And i think that the bass drum is also too high. I have a version of "it's allright for you" (a police song). I played over the track. I would post it here too, but I don't know if it would be legal (probably not).

The last time I tried to download one, I got a Trojan Horse for my trouble (not a problem that you would have). Do you know a safe site for an ogg player? I'd also be interested in hearing your Stewart Copeland impression. Ed

You believe everything a company says about its self? The term 'quality' is a very subjective matter, both are lossy formats so who can truly be the judge? From what I see, the main pushers for the O.V. format are those people who are always upset by 'corporate America' like those that push open source, like yourself... and the tilt of the mind slants just one way in most of the 'open source' community.. I never said ogg was bad, just said it was not as recognized, therein lies the problem. > Don't be afraid. Download winamp, I'm not afraid... I have Winamp... Why should I be afraid? I bet you have protest signs, all made nice with glitter too! What you speak of is the free enterprise system that we all know and love, if Bill G. didn't make products that worked, and we all bought them, he would not have succeeded. Nothing makes people more jealous than success. The hippie culture was all about free and sharing too... but look at some of them now in BMWs and Mercedes convertibles, they wouldn't use a drop of their chai lattes to put out their mother's hair if it were on fire. Just look at Woodstock's commercialized comeback... > And I don't use windows (i use linux), and I don't have a wma encoder. Yah, I thought that little penguin guy was cute until I realized that if I want to run the most software, and be fully compliant with my clients and friends, then I had to use what I use. Anything else is just being stubborn. > > Please, don't ban something without doing a minimum research. BAN?? What?? Are the shadow people back? I do the research Mr. Linux... I do audio for a living. I was merely making a suggestion, you took it as an insult and then went on a tirade about Microsoft for some reason.. just like all the other open sorcerers... Have a nice open free day. gord.

Try it at your own risk, and read the documentation. Or you can try sonique: http://sonique.lycos.com/
