ROM upgrade for Hi-hat / snare fault

ROM upgrade for Hi-hat / snare fault

2003-12-05 by gt090170

Hi all,

I'm new to digest & sorry if this has already been covered & is
common knowledge.

I had a fault on my dtx module recently whereby when the hi-hat &
snare are played together only one sound source is audible. This only
happens between said two voices. No amount of tweaking/resetting will
rectify situation. I phoned Yamaha & was told this is a known fault &
a corrective action was in place for this by way of replacement ROM
chip.

If you are unlucky to encounter problem send back to Yamaha via
dealer from whom you bought kit.

GT.

Hi GT,

We've dealt with this problem on the board since the DTXpress II came
out. It is manifested in a specific-rejection between the snare and
the hi hat (I forget which one's; it's all over the board) being set
too high. I'm glad to hear about the new ROM chip, but members have
been able to rectify the problem by reducing the appropriate spec.
rej. number; it simply shipped at too a setting so far as snare and
hi hat were concerned. No complaints have been forthcoming from
anyone who performed the requisite adjustment.

That is interesting that Yamaha support said specifically that the "ROM"
chip fixed the problem. Which makes me wonder if the new chips I have,
include the "fix" or if it is another updated chip. The "fix" might be as
simple as changing the default settings for rejection, as oppose to a real
recalibration/program coding change.

Luckily, I never encountered this problem, because I have never used the
factory default settings to begin with.
