Real Snare Triggering pads

Real Snare Triggering pads

2003-11-30 by William

Hey Guys,
I have not a clue how to stop this. Ive set all my triggers to where
its not too bad yet still not enough. Every time i get done on my
real snare, certian pads want to trigger. i cant have that..LOL

To explain, what Ive have done is custom re-arranged the rack so
that i have 5 pads scatter stack in 2 rows. Its located just to the
right of my hit-hat and snare. (I'll do a pic if needed)One pad is
about 8 inches from the snare and keeps triggering. What do ya'll
suggest here. My options are limited on moving the rack, its the
best place to have it and very easy to get to.
Thanks,
Wm

Pics of my studio/kit

2003-11-30 by Vernon Graner

Ok, I finally got around to setting my kit back up in the studio after
tearing it (and the studio!) apart for Halloween FX. I then dug out my
digital camera and took some pics. See them here:

<http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dtxpress/lst?.dir=/New+Drum+Kit+Photos/Vern+(IlusionSYSOP)&.src=gr&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//briefcase.yahoo.com/>

and if it gets mangled by word wrap, here:

http://tinyurl.com/x4si

I just wish I got to play more often.. If you look closely, you can see
the pads aren't even plugged back into the head yet. :::sigh:::

Vern,
Welcome back from the graveyard...

I have also been swamped at work and with the holidays.
I know what you mean.

I tore my down set and crated them up when the Hurricane came
through. I just got them set back up last weekend and did some
rearranging of the pads. I setup a three zone hihat that runs off
one pedal. Took the two other hihat pads and run them off one pedal.
I patched two PCY65 pads(one on right, one on left) together to
trigger off one zone that gives me mirrored ride cymbals.(thanks to
Stewart for that suggestion). I took some new pics this afternoon.
Will replace the one in my album later on this evening.

Arg! Reset FAQ.... where?

2003-12-01 by Vernon Graner

Ok, so I went to setup my kit and it looks like it did a factory reset
(static or something?) so now I have to do the "reset the hi-hat settings
that Yamaha screwed up" and I can't *find* the steps anywhere! If someone
can send it to me I'll post it on dtxpressions.com links or FAQ or
something...

ADVthanxANCE!

Re: Arg! Reset FAQ.... where?

Vern,

Press Shift-Trig to get to trigger setup.
Tap the snare pad.
Page down to "SpecRej" screen for Input 2-snare

The first number is the level of rejection, the second is the pad
being rejected (or ignored) by the snare pad. So try:

SpecRej=4 to 8 {4 is rejection level , 8 is the pad being rejected
(ignored)}

Tap the hihat pad.
Set SpecRej=4 to 2

Now test it. If the snare still doesn't sound when the hihat is hit,
lower the SpecRej down for the triggers. If the snare triggers the
hihat then raise the SpecRej up.

The idea is to lower the SpecRej number to the lowest number that
you can without creating crosstriggering.

A little question

2003-12-01 by Denis Brk

hi,
I'm new to DTXPress and the module it's not
mine....I'd like to use it for live performances with
a real acoustic drum. I need it just to permit my
drummer to sound some samples without need of a synth
and a synth man.
My question is: Is this little device able to play
custom samples...How can i edit or build new syx
files?
thanx for patience....

Denis,

If you mean, will the DTXpress module download samples from elsewhere
for playback, the answer is no. It plays only its own samples, as
modified by its own parameters. You can, however, use the module to
access samples via MIDI by connecting the pads but bypassing the
module's internal sound(s). Clavia's ddrum and Alesis' DM Pro modules
will accept samples, but the next wave of offerings from all of the
major manufacturers is expected to be more accommodating in that
respect than anything currently on the market. If you already have
the DTXpress, I would suggest that you or your drummer get to know
what it does; it may well have voices that will satisfy your needs.

Thanx for answering.

What i need is a module able to play samples when i
hit the pad. Samples I would use are special FX or
some guitar riff i sampled from my guitar.
I told me bad news :(!
The good news is that i didn't spend any euro for
that:)
So, i think that's a goodbye for this newsgroup, cuz i
joined just to ask this minimal infos.

Thanx for help:)

So will this also take care of the "hi-hat too quiet" problem or is there
another few steps to add to this? (Since I'm planning to post this to the
DTXpressions FAQ, I figure I might as well be thorough!)

:)

RE: [DTXpress] Re: Arg! Reset FAQ.... where?

2003-12-01 by rdamon@mckinney-usa.com

The other alternate is to move the hihat pad to the "alternate" location,
which the same tube that the module is located on.
Clearly, the key is "How hard do you hit?", If you have a light touch then
adjusting the cross-triggering setting should take care of it. If you are a
heavy hitter then the only solution may be to move the hihat pad to the
other location.

RE: [DTXpress] Re: Arg! Reset FAQ.... where?

2003-12-01 by Vernon Graner

No, the cross-trigger issue wasn't what I was referencing. I was
referring to the common complaint that the hi-hat volume level, in
*general* is much lower than the rest of the kit when struck with more or
less equal force.

I had tweaked *something* in my search that had brought the level up to
something reasonable, but I can't remember what. Dang. You don't use
something for even a month or two and blammo... all the knowledge /skills
evaporate. Nutz.

Ahh! Oh no! My drums are gone! Where are they?

(Vern taps on my shoulder) Hun, you uploaded them to the group this
morning...

Oh... Can I please have my drums back? (looking sheepish)

Stephanie,

Where did you put them in the Photos section or in the files section
and when? I get email logs that tell me when files have been added
to the photos/files section and didn't get one on your file being
added.

So I just created a sub-folder under Files...UserKits...Stephanie's
Kits for you to put you saved kit's...please try again.

Thanks.

Vern, you playing tricks on me? Oh I see them, I uploaded them last night
instead of the pics to a another yamaha-related web site. Sorry for the
confusion. I promise not to stuff the drums through the monitor again.
Sorry...

Stephanie

PS. You took my e-mail a little too literally. ;-)

Someone may have already chimed in on this, but I'll post an Idea
anyway.. :)

How about placing a MIDI trigger on the snare itself, assign it to no
voice at all and ony using it for rejection/specific rejection? If you
did this, you would be able to "mute" the pads that are too close and
that are being false triggered... just a thought...
