Problems with DTXchange :(

2000-12-07 by Wagner

Hey guys,

After a week of messing around with my dtxpress I wanna try some pc to brain
stuff, I got my midi jacks in and everything setup, but for some reason I
can't send or recieve anything between my pc and dtxpress, the dtx just runs
through it's "sendin" routine and then says complete while my pc is still
waiting for somthing... any help would be appreciated!

You know what,

To tell ya the truth I don't even think theres a connection going on
between my DTXpress and my PC, it probably is something with my PC settings,
I'll mess around with it for a while and if I still have no luck I let ya
know.

Re: [DTXpress] Problems with DTXchange :(

2000-12-11 by Giles Hearn

Many soundcards use the joystick/game port as MIDI
also - so it's the same thing.

You don't need to set DTXchange up as a MIDI
instrument. When you start DTXchange, the first thing
you need to do is select the correct MIDI input/output
ports. DTXchange simply reads/writes data from and to
the MIDI In/Out ports already setup on your PC. If you
have a Soundblaster, for example - your MIDI In port
might look like "SB16 MIDI In" - you'll find these in
Control Panel/Multimedia.

Oh - one more thing. Make sure you get a decent
(expensive) MIDI cable. There are many cheaper cables
out there that simply don't work with a PC.

Well I think you answered my question,

It must be the midi cables becuase it seems my computer isn't even
detecting a midi cable plugged in... I got my cables with a cakewalk demo,
do you know where I could find really really good cabels so I don't
encounter this problem again?

thanx a lot!

RE: [DTXpress] Problems with DTXchange :(

2000-12-12 by Brow, Paul [LTS]

I have never had any trouble with midi cables, even cheap ones. I use all sorts of din to din extensions when experimenting and they always work - the trouble for me is usually in setting parameters or midi in/outs in the software. Try using a cable from the DTX to your sequencer software - if it plays ok then the cable is ok (presuming your software settings are right).

Some Soundblaster cards need special optical midi adaptors when used on the game port - they don't always ship with the card and generic adaptors don't always work either.

If you have a USB port, consider a USB midi interface - they are very reliable, multiport, and very easy to set-up.

Paul is right, the trouble I've had with MIDI cables
have all been with Soundblaster cards and game ports -
are you using this kind of setup?? If so, you need a
better cable.

Virtual Xpress

2000-12-14 by pdk

Hi all,

Just for fun I've started creating a DTXpress in a 3D graphics program (at
work, from memory and web pics so somewhat simplified and not perfectly to
scale). Attached is a sample. If anybody has any interest in a rendering for
say a Christmas card, T-shirt, web graphic, diagram, present for your
girlfriend...whatever...let me know and maybe I can do you a custom view or
setup.

========================================================================

pete

ps: The green is just for clarity during the building process (looks cool
tho doesn't it?).

Re: Virtual Xpress

2001-02-14 by tOny@netdoor.com

Hi I ordered my DTXPRESS today! Should be in next week. I was
impressed to see another person doing 3D Drum work. I am working on a
Radialpro 1000 drum rendering. It's not finished yet...but I put it
in the files area for you to check out. It was created with Lightwave
6.5

Here is the direct link to it:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DTXpress/files/drumrender.jpg

Can't wait until my DTXpress gets in.

Tony,

Very cool! Puts my less sophisticated rendering efforts to shame. Love the
screws.

Yours notwithstanding I had zero response to my original post so I've been
toiling in obscurity. Perhaps I'll post some updated pics anon. That is,
unless you plan to render your new Xpress yourself, in which case I'll cease
and desist all activity so as not to be blown out of the water :)

ps: we are not worthy, etc...

Re: Virtual Xpress

2001-02-15 by tOny@netdoor.com

On the contrary - I thought your stuff looked great. It's only the
chrome/dramatic lighting on mine that makes it stand out. The detail
on yours with the hardware connections is great. What kind of
rendering tool are you using? I think it's going to look cool when
you have the whole thing finished.

PS...I am new to these list...how did you do the attachment in your
post? I couldn't figure it out so I had to put my pic in the files
area - which is probably not the best place since the image is off
topic.

Thanks,
Tony B.

Re: [DTXpress] Re: Virtual Xpress

2001-02-20 by pdk

Tony,

I do my 3D in Adobe Dimensions for the Mac. That's right a stone-age,
essentially free program. It's not meant for what I do with it and I should
have migrated long ago. But I've been using it for so long I know how to
tweak it. For lighting effects I open the file in PhotoShop and do it all
manually.

As for attachments, I post my messages using Outlook Express, which handles
attachments with drag and drop ease. I don't know how to attach things via
the web interface.

btw: I don't consider this stuff off topic.
