DTXpress 3 at my local shop

DTXpress 3 at my local shop

2004-02-03 by G

To my suprise today, there was a standard DTXpress 3 set up at my
local shop in Ottawa, Canada. Too bad it wasn't a sp, I would realy
like to see the hi-hat and those round cymbals.
Personaly, I found the new rack looked a little on the flimsy side
and the plastic tom clamps even flimsier. I guess a true test on
strength will come once people start using them on the road.

George,

Seriously, we need to find an award for you and your local shop. This
is the first sighting that I've encountered to this point. Any chance
of asking the shop for its intentions about the SP? The plastic tom
clamps are definitely for home use. Those who gig the DTXpress should
go for the metal Gibralters, Pintechs, etc. If you can sit down at
the new kit, you might be the first nonofficial member to report on
the new cymbal sounds. Brian LaRue, who got to try them in England,
had good things to say.

Actually, I've got a new recommendation for rack systems: The Pacific
rack. Sturdy, the brushed metal look of the clamps looks way nicer than
the black Gibraltars, and the racks are pretty lightweight for
something that sturdy. I'm a huge fan of these racks.

If I remember our conversation accurately, he tried them behind the
scenes at the big exposition (Music Live?) when he met some of the
Yamaha people and forged the distribution deal.

Yeah, they seem solid; they look good; and the price ain't too bad.
Call me a dinosaur, but, nothwithstanding the proprietary hardware
and a few other quirks, I'm also a fan of the Pearl DR-80. Definitely
not for everybody though.

The Pearl racks are cool pieces, the square tubing just makes sense to
me. The new one Pearl debuted at NAMM actually has curved bars now.
Nice improvement, I think

Yeah, I was kind of stunned to see it there set up on the floor. As
for information, the main "drum guy" was not around. I plan on going
back tomorrow fresh and with my headphones.
