Hi DJ,
Sooner or later you run out of inputs on every module/kit
combination; it happens faster with some than with others. But the
DTXPIII will allow you to add two mono pads or one dual-zone pad (a
drum/cymbal with two separate piezo triggers). You can also add two
stereo pads of the type that come with the kit, but they will only
register as mono, since the extra two inputs are not constructed to
accommodate their "stereoness." You can avoid the problem of what
pedal to buy if you happen to purchase from a store that includes one
in the purchase price (Midwest Percussion, for one, I think).
Otherwise be prepared for any number of recommendations at the
bargain end of the scale. I always thought that the entry-level
Yamaha was pretty good. A little more money will get you such things
as a base plate, extra stability, better drive, and adjustability--
not necessary for a beginner imho. But then again, I spent most of my
heavy playing days using a Camco pedal with a leather strap.
