WHICH CABLE DO I NEED?

WHICH CABLE DO I NEED?

2001-01-25 by Michael Lieberman

OK, after reading Bills last reply I am keen to load
up some of those kits on the website. I have
downloaded the files, but what if any other software
do I need and which cables are necessary to do a
download from my Toshiba laptop?

thanks

Mike-
I'm not sure what you need for a laptop. Assuming it has a port from
your sound card and it supports MIDI, I just bought cables from Mars
Music ($18)which connect to the game/MIDI port on the back of the
card. It then has two leads with MIDI plugs that plug into the back
of the DTX brain. I used the DTXchange software from Giles and after
loading the program, loading the kits were a snap - less than 10
seconds each. By the way, the MIDI plugs are marked "in" and "out"
and they plugged into the opposite MIDI inputs on the back of the
brain (in to out, etc.) Read the instructions Giles provides on his
site which show the cables and the steps to follow.
Hope this helps.
Bill

Mike,

I think you can purchase Midi adapters to plug into the PCMCIA slots which
most Portables have these days ...

Re: [DTXpress] WHICH CABLE DO I NEED?

2001-01-25 by Vivien Emiya

hi,
Personaly I use a cable which links the joystick port of my sound card to
the midi input and midi output of the dtxpress brain(it is the same as
Michael) and i use Dumpster to export and import downloads, or saved files.
Dumpster can be downloaded in the archive of the group.
I think that the use of midi cable is more comfortable because you will be
able to play midi files from your pc on the dtxpress and record them, or you
can record midi drum pattern with midi softwares. Besides the midi use is
very easy because it is an international standard. (when i was looking for
cables, i was told that using the to host port was more difficult because of
the need of drivers, etc...). But maybe portables don t have joystick
port....i don t know.
So try to find another pc (not portable). Otherwise i saw midi interface you
can plug on a USB port, but it is maybe too expensive if you only want to
download kits on your dtxpress brain, and i don't know very much of these
interfaces.
Is there anyone who knows?
